I mean come on... windows ME is a testament to microsoft's undying comittment to releasing quality, secure, completely intuitive OS... :D There's absolutely zero potential for microsoft to release a bunk OS in the new vista!

(umm is anybody buying this crap   )

I think lsega77 is being sarcastic.......he has to be

no no, ... he loves ME and he knows it! l    ...alright, ...that sounded weird.

__________

Your right about the security features, ...can't argue with that, ..malware is out of control, .....but can we honestly say that Vista is going to fix that for novice/average users ? ...be great if it did.. :)

On a side note, ... malware has a silver lining, .. it's created an entire new industry of jobs --- The #1 service on pc's today is, .. of course, ... malware/spyware removal.

A little anecdote: ...a little local mom/pop pc store where I just pick up cabes, fans, etc.. used to be a pretty sleepy little joint--coma like really, ..but now with their new spyware removal service, ...that place is freaking bristling with activity !

I still have an old 766MHz Compaq laptop that came with ME...never had a single problem with it...never reinstalled...boots up or down in about 8 seconds total...and no, I'm not being sarcastic. :)

I wouldn´t call Vista an upgrade, more the other way around...

Personally i don´t plan to pay a swedish krona for the so-called "improvements" in Vista. Bs features mainly for people who use the computer as a toy, value eye-candy over power, and are in desperate need of "security for dummies"-features because they(in most cases), lack common sense. Are there actually any sane people who plan to use Vista as a working machine for CG, and waste valuable memory on pointless blingbling?
I seriously doubt it.

I´ve never had any issues with XP, which i find very quick, comfortable and stable to work with. If and when i switch to a 64-bit system, i´m definitely going for XP64.

I've been looking forward to Superfetch since my Amiga... used to use the RAMdisk all the time. I't unfair to say that Microsoft stole everything from Apple, some things were taken from Amiga and Linux too.

Unfortunately, serious users will eventually have to switch to Vista because that is where the applications are... so SP2 better come quickly.

For the record, ... I also had a Win Me machine that ran perfect, ..not nary a problem. I just like making fun of Microsoft for naming an OS ---Windows Me ( to be pronounced - Meeeeeeeeee ! ) Sure, ...I know it's actually the Millennium Edition, but I'm sure MS loved the pseudo-double entendré it created with the word, ... Meeeeeeeee !

...may I be excused now? :P

btw: I'm surprised that MS didn't call it ... C:My Windows :) ...being that their so concerned with 'My' stuff...

guys... we all know that the futur of computers OS is linux ^^

more seriously (not that i dont like & use linux, for me this is THE OS), but vista is just useless for a CG man... i mean, the opengl isn"t even supported by the OS, the CG card brand as to do a tricky workaround on their drivers to make it work, and apparently, they have some problems to do so...XP is far from perfect, but actually i'll stick with it (64b version), it is the best OS microsoft made so far, and believe me, it cost me to say it.

now, important note of selling : if they do a "perfect OS" what actually they have the money & people to do it, they'll have a problem when everybody get it own license... no more OS the sell (to bad... )

hopefully, one day, majors like adobe will wake up and release some linux versions of their software, from this point, knowing how easy cant be some linux distrib (mandriva, suse) & so unlimited in flexibility some others are (gentoo, LFS <= not really a distrib, but well...) it's gonna be a bad day for microsoft... at that time they try to keep majors near of them with advantajous partnerships to make that never appen...

but actually, those are only words... i invit you to install vista to see how deep the last MS baby suxs, so you can see by yourself, have great time doing it ;)

PS : enjoy the fantastic vista boot installer in "high quality grafik", we're in 2007, so it's 10 year after the first linux distrib introduced such an installer, but wait, 10year ago, linux (redhat) wasn't asking you to reboot your computer during the installation process...mmmhh still some work to do in the MS office ^^ maybe in 2017
