Mike, he's impressive because drum & bass and jungle, usually involves computers to program the beats and samplers for the drum sounds.

I've been composing drum and bass, dance music & breakbeats with a computer for the last 8 years. Most of my drum lines would not be possible to recreate with a normal drummer, but they seemingly can. That's what's most impressive about him to me.
I appreciate they are many drummers who can potentially play like this, but only a handful chose to do so and create new music with it.

hyperballad, wow, he can play!!

Cheers for the giggle Tom, that was wicked. :D

...that's exactly right. That's what jungle/D & B was all about (at least to me in the beginning) , ... seemingly possible, ..but basically impossible rhythms to create on a normal set. ...exotic timings and strange rudiments.

:)

Hyperballad: ...awesome link. ...that one handed stuff, ...well, ...I've never seen anyone do something close to that --- total motion blur.
...amazing.

Tim, I've composed similar drum tracks in 1990 with 8 bit samples with the legendary Soundtracker on Amiga. I know what you mean perfectly ;) 8)

Tom!!!! I haven't seen that GUI for years.

Notator on the ST, weapon of choice until Logic Audio was born

Now all my dnb programming is done with the matrix editor in Logic, usually at 4x the tempo to get those really fast snare build ups.

As a drummer and an old music fanatic (started with MOD-tracker on PC and continued with Fast-tracker) I say the drummer guy is good.

Even Jojo Mayer started his own project with a live DnB thing and we Jojo Mayer is considered a drum god. Check this out Mike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IALkXnv36ow (it's a 5 part document). A music blasphemy?? I say it's still 1000x better then the stuff on MTV in 8 years :)

Speaking of drummers. Check out this little kid

What I find absolutely incredible is the expression on his face at 0:25 - that little guy really enjoys the playing ... amazing

a newer vid

The kid can play damn good. Not sure if he has any future in the music biz but it's amazing to see such a little guy to own alot of important drummer's assets and even enjoying it. Neat 8)
