Heres a new little scene i did. I used a skydome with 9.5 intensity, and one emitter. It has 10 bounces, rendered for 20 hours and only got to level 16. I used neat image to take out a bunch of noise. I might let it render overnight again tonight and see if i can get it any clearer.

Very cool :) Why does it look like there's an orange light at the bottom?

Edit: Sorry, I thought you ment you used skydome and emitter outside for the lighting.....

Nice one! i like the reflection/highlight on the hand rail there :)
But.. if i can give you some critics on it, not sure i'm the best one to do it but here it comes anyways.

I think the composition is ..empty. It misses something, there's nothing really that catches the attention and brings the viewers focus onto something small but noticable in the scene. Maybe something laying in the stairs being hit by the sunlight being projected through the window and that makes the viewers pull their eyes towards it and trying to investigate whatever it is there laying in the sunshine in the stairs :)

However this is just my personal opinion, it might not be the same for others and it could ruin your idea with this picture. Anyways i babbled on enough for now :)

Keep on Maxwelling!

Thanks people.
Yea, im Jason.

I can agree that the composition is a little empty. I thought about putting a lamp on the wall to the right, but it didnt really look right. Originally i just had the outside light illuminating the room, but i added the orange light to give some interest. It was tough finding a camera angle because the space is so small....i had to cut a hole in the wall and put the camera in there.:D

IMO great scene... i love simple and effective things :D
Otacon, it seems like there's no texture and if yes, this would be a nice benchmark scene.
If you won't improve it for some reason, I suggest you sharing this with newbies.
They can play and learn much from it... :D

Hehe, it seems we all prefer our own staircases differently :) i'm not gonna object to that, it's very much personal.
But i just took a 2nd look at it now today and the underside of the stairs should be a smooth swept surface such as they have on many staircases or else banging your head into that sharp surface would be awfully painful :) although this is just another of my personal tastes when it comes to stairs. It's not really necessary, it's more up to otacon's own idea's and wishes.

However, i like it! it's almost like a stairway to heaven now.. you got the blueish colorized "sky" upwards in the stairs and further down in the staircase you got the more reddish colorized "hell" ;) if i put it that way..

Great Render.
My only suggestion is to bevel or round out the corners of the stairs.
The realizm will jump up 100 percent. In real life - nothing has a perfect sharp corner.

Maxwells renderer will easily pick up the detailed corners.
Just a tip- I use it all the time and makes a hell of a difference.

Some glossy reflections on the steps and a little more bevel would help too. And monkeys.

Thank you guys for the comments. I actually have beveled corners on the stairs, but i think that detail is missing because of the noise reduction. I will try letting it render for longer and see if it looks better. Then i will probably post the scene for people to use.
