Yes, I rediscovered the Commodore 64! :D

Imagine Maxwell running on a C64 with enough RAM expansion. I guess it would take a month to render one 640 x 480 image. :)

Around the end of this month I will have my new mean quadcore machine and will let you know about it as soon as it's up 'n' runnin'.

so we see this core 2 quadro, overclocked to 3 GHz getting to 31 minutes in the maxwell render benchmark.
an octa xeon would read around 23 minutes after my calculations (maybe a little less, because i calculated with the cinebench values), but will cost about 2.5 times more than a box with the cpu mentioned above...

what do You think, guys... will this change ANY soon ?

maybe in a month, apple might announce officially an octa Mac Pro 2.66 GHz which will not be overclockable... but it seems they have no chance in the performance/price ratio against the core 2 quadro....

or ?

Sorry I haven't read this whole thread but I was wondering if you guy's decided what the best Maxwell rendering machine would be. It's almost time for me to get a new workstation and it looks like the Intel chips are faster than the AMD's but I haven't looked into it that much yet. Also what kind of video card would you recommend; right now I'm using an Nvidia Quadro 1400.

well, Maxer.

at the moment, the most speed for the money You get with a core 2 quadro system, which might be even overclocked.

i think an octa core solution costs You about twice as much, but is not really faster. i wonder how much ivox3 put on the counter for his system...

i'd definitely go for one of these quadros.

problem: they can not be overclocked, cost more and reach at the moment to 2.66 GHz.
my math told me that dual quad (octo xeons) will be around 25 minutes in the maxwell speedtest 1.1.

maybe a system with a single cpu, double cpu is much more expensive!

a preorder from DELL for a 4 GB ram, octo 2.66 GHz system is around 7500 $ !! (2.66 xeons are not yet available)

wait some more time and look what prices and models apple will announce.

these are the reasons why the core 2 quadro is on top, despite the slower bus.

Depends on where you purchase your hardware - streetprices or vendor prices can vary quite a bit.

...currently configuring an octo xeon machine for ~ €2,2k

i'm only sceptical because of the power consumption and corresponding cooling system. It might be wise to get the Low Voltage Xeons for a workstation.

But for this i'll have an example system built which i can testdrive and decide which components make it into my system and which don't.

woohaa... 2200 € ! would You show us these components ? or is this still secret ?

Maximus3D wrote:Impressive rigs you guys are talking about here, and the costs of them are equallly impressive

But what do you guys think about normal consumer hardware like this motherboard ?

certainly perfectly cool to work with ! intel has a good name and it will get even better. i see no problem to buy not a consumer pc which might even get the same results. :)

just aim for the goal You're heading to and ask the pro's in harware around here... well, NOT ME !

humble bows to the masters that helped me so much ! :?

again... another thought about it.

are You sure You're talking about european EURO ? because one 2.66 GHz quad xeon cpu alone will cost nearly half that ! (~ 850 € per cpu) :?: :?:

interesting how You would make that....... :)

deadalvs: Thanks, well yes it looks great but this forum might be the wrong place to ask since most of you guys run on such extreme hardware. Stuff which few mortal humans can afford.

Anyways.. i done some research lately and came up with consumer priced rig fully capable of both highquality gaming and 3d modeling/rendering with some power and money to spare. It's now on it's way.. sometimes next week should i get it. :P
