I think that its good for competition and innovation the iphone and the nokia n800 are both nice devices, but as of right now I would not pay $500 dollars for the iphones when I don't get VoIP and only 2 Gigs. I hope that others are not as afraid of the touch screen UI I have use the canola player for the Nokia 770 and it was nice so I hope that things move on this direction.

The iphone is amazing Finally some useful stuff on a mobile phone and great interface. It looks like they used some of the touchscreen tech I saw demonstrated where you could zoom in/out by dragging two fingers on the screen.

I use cingular so I am thinking about this but still $500 for 4Gigs is a little over the top. Really how many of you payed more than $200 for your cellphone? The good thing is that my contract expires on july and they always offer me some nice incentive, but we will see. I don;t mind signing log term contracts I had them since I was 16 I am 25 now (whoa!! almost a decade) . I really want to get one, but the price might be too high for me. I love bleeding edge stuff, but right now I am trying to decide between keeping my current phone and add the Nokia n800 or getting the new iphone when it comes out.

500 is a lot for what will primarily be a phone, but this thing can actually be usable for lots of other things like web browsing, sending and viewing emails, getting directions using google maps, listening to music. Other phones claim to do most of these things but it's so awkward and limited in use.

The newer phones from Nokia and Sony aren't exactly cheap either. Here they are about 200-300 euros, that's 260-390 dollars.

Here in russia the latest Nokia and SE phones START from 500 $.
Nokia N73 is 600$, N93 - 900 $. Well, on the other hand, you just buy yourself a phone in a shop, noone forces you to sign any long term contracts, which is good!

I'm a little disappointed by the design of the iphone but the interface looks great...way bettter than my windows mobile . Their display looks terrific 480x320 in 160 ppi, but why do they say in 160ppi...must of the people will not understand that.
Anyway as i said the design is not very impressive...kind of bland and seems already seen...well that's my personal feeling.
And 500$ is not so expensive for such mobile phone. I bought mine, a Dopod 838, 600$ one year ago in HongKong.

I was of the same breed a while ago But the way they designed the iphone it makes sense not to carry around with you a cell phone, and an mp3 player, and chargers for both. And perhaps have to power up your portable computer just to send a quick email. Plus it's a great routeplanner, you download the maps when you're at home via wi-fi and then use the phone almost like a gps navigator, really cool stuff! In fact I don't see any reason why they couldn't develop a real gps application for it. The phone can be tracked and since it has a loudspeaker you just put it on your dashboard and your phone gives you directions. It's a great value for 500. Ofcourse if you need this stuff Personally I think I would find it really useful.
