Looks like Maxwell, unlike many other apps, makes perfect use of the 4 cores. Very good to hear :)

yes Maxwell stresses the cpus a lot.
At 3.3ghz I had a blue screen during the maxwell speed test. However I had run cinebench several times before that without any problem(1737 points multi cpu test!), and ran some tests like sandra benchmark too.
But I think it would have been stable if I had set the voltage a little higher. (like 1.35v... - 1.325 v stock).

Regarding the motherboard question, I use an Intel Bad Axe 2. The bus is set at 4x333Mhz, with the memory running at 1:1 -> 333 (DDR 667) cas 4.
All voltages are stock.
Pretty happy with this new machine for now :)

you could try to lower the RAM multiplier and raise the FSB, that might help you... well, at least it helped me with my conroe :)

CPU: QX6700 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme
Cores: 4
Ram: 2GB
OS: XP32
Time: 37m44s
Bench: 173.95

So, fast but not quite as fast as the Xeon dual cores!? Hmm, I was under the impression that there was really no significant difference in the chips...

no wonder... the dualcores run @ 3 GHz...

what did Your box cost ?

Thanks for pointing out the obvious (that I missed) :-)

I think we got a sreamin' deal. The boxes cost somewhere around high US $1700 to low $1800! Not a great graphics card, but we use Revit, and a big graphics card doesn't do a thing for navigation...

So, I guess the Core 2 extreme is faster than a Xeon dual core at the same speed (if you look at page one table).

Update of the db in the first page ;)
thanx for all the new tests :)
There is a new cpu in the first position

Technically the package is a dual dual-core as well. I heard AMD's gonna deliver a real quad core right away, intel probably will later on, maybe when they enter 45nm production.

Any word on what those chips retail for? I've been aiming to upgrade my 1 month old render node from 5150's to 5355's. Seems like the only real way right now I can use both of my Maxwell licenses the way I want.

in the meantime, slightly increased overclock:
Conroe E6600 @ 3.250 GHz
Time: 58' 15"
Benchmark: 113.53

some time ago, i mentioned the adding of a the cinebench R9.5 x-cpu value.

it this still an option?

* * *

especially for new processors, there are mainly cinebench values around on the web of processor samples which let calculate how fast a computer would work if built with these processors.
i have seen on my computers that with cinebench, one computer is fastest and with this maxwell benchmark, my other computer is faster.

now, if we know for existing hardware how fast they work on cinebenchs and maxwell benchs, we can do some very very interesting comparisions also with the price for a computer...

please add this benchmark !!! it's just one number !

it's also super-easy to use and run !!!

http://www.maxon.net/pages/download/cinebench_e.html

plus, it's available on mac, windows, 32 bit, 64 bit and universal binary for mac... it's all there ! in ONE simple installer !

I was glad to see the scaling of performance. Though I had to interpolate to guage my Xeon dual 2.0's, the performance was almost exactly double with a quadcore. 8)
