1) Texture backing (for export to realtime program)
2) For the Max-plugin: (material editor) in the Wizard a preset for emiter
3) material converter for max materials to Maxwell material
4) clouds in the sun- and skylight options
5) more renderspeed

1- Fixed sky (water no effect)/improved sky(clouds-moon-stars-different gradients)
2- DISPLACMENT/MicroDisplacment (subVoxel displacment)
3-Volume Shaders(gas/water)-Fog!
4-Layered Hdri lighting to be able to add high intensity pixel values(so hdri's made from outdoors will cast sharp sun shadows-- this may be accomplised with a Layerd (2 or more hdri env's added on each other) Hdri Dome system)-- Or some kind of parrallel light emision flag or setting)
5-SHADOW CATCHER MATERIAL!!

100% agree with 3dtrialpractice

1. Displacement at the sub pixel level
2. XSI plug-in
3. Volume effects for fog and smoke etc.
4. Procedural maps
5. Last folder opened being remembered/mxm path connection
(The location of the mxm should be used when looking for maps)

A 6th would be a text based format for the scene files.

Unless I misunderstood, you can already do this by turning on the sun in the physical sky settings, then switching to hdr/mxi env, and load your maps. Mxcl will now use both the hdr and cast sharp shadows from the sun in physical sky.[/quote]

YEP.. I understand your solution.. and Indeed this is what i am doing.. BUT.. there are a few problems with this..
1) you have to take the time to find your lat/long and time settings so that your maxwell sun direction matches the light direction in the hdri.. Its a pain sometimes. .esp with arbitraty images that I dont know what lat/long they were shot at. .and since sun placment isnt interavtive then there is alot of hit/miss testing..

2) by using sun/physical sky. .there is NO way of controling the SUN strenght indepenant of Sky illum strenght.. so whats happening is that I would love to tone down the physical sky intensity..w/o turning the sun down. .why you do this with mutlilight.. the sun and physical sky share the same slider :(.. PLUS then you also have added blue cast form your hdri or your physical sky... they way i get over this now is i turn turbidy to 0 so ONly the sun shines. .and then Im using the hdri emmiting light as my sky fill in.. It dont work too great cuz now my shadows are Super blck.. so I have to composite the two render passes in after effects (since I deal with animation and not stills).
.all im requesting is just more options for us at render time so that sun and physical sky can be adj independently.. and for us to have some kind of parrallel light emiiter. .either as a emmiter or as parrallel light via hdri dome...

1. Better large scenes handling, instancing support.
2. Displacement
3. More controls over final image output.
4. Tilt-shift lense, white point auto-correction.
5. Volumetric shaders and SDK for them.
...
There are many, many wishes and suggestions on further 3dsmax plugin development...

1.) Basic procedural textures to control emitters

2.) a visual indication on where the sky is placed in Maya plugin and being able to rotate it in real time like you do with Mental Ray HDRI option.

3.) Option to use RS0, so you can control light bounces

4.) 64bit

5.) layered sky, so you can have sky + clouds + etc....

1) displacement
2) volumetric shaders (fog/smoke)
3) shift lens
4) separate sunligt and skylight control

lighting analysis
resume render

So, is this a known issue?

Thanks a lot for your response, I will update and […]

did you tried luxCore?
