Memory leaks, poor multitasking, poor GUI and network manager.

umm...can you be more specific? Windows leaked memory? Never seen it...seen alot of apps do it, but not the OS. Multi-tasking? I guess when I'm running 2 mxcl.exe processes on low priority, and surfing the web...and I can't tell that the proc is at 100%...that's an example of poor multi-tasking? GUI & Network ??? Never noticed a serious problem with the OS, myself...since NT, anyway. Lots of buggy apps, but...

I regularly long back to the days of the good old Commodore Amiga. The machine that introduced hardware multitasking in 1985, with a bootable, fine OS.

It is OS that distributes the memory between apps, AFAIK, and when the app is quit and the memory remains reserved to it - it is the OS problem.

When i render something with cinema's AR on win machine it takes tine to show contents of "My Computer" folder in explorer. It shouldn't. I run it on 2.0 Ghz Core Duo with 2Gb ram.

Have you ever tried setting up Internet connection sharing from ethernet card to other computers using WiFi?

Seems to me we are speaking of different OS's... However a human can get used to anything, thats what's good in us! Before i switched from Win to Linux and later to MacOSX, i thought everything is Ok with Win...
Everything is becoming clear in comparison...

a) applications request memory. A memory leak is what happens when they don't give it back.
b) sounds like Cinema's renderer doesn't know how to run on low priority...not an OS problem, imho.
c) yep.
d) yes, and more than that...and I've never had serious problem. In coffee shops everywhere, there seem to be lots of other people who don't have problems with it either.

Boris, I was not trying to get into some debate about Win vs. Mac vs. whatever...this all has nothing to do with the fact that 99% of OS development is, and should be, about providing better platforms for developers...so they can write better applications that make the machine more useful. The point is, nobody ever did anything of value with just an operating system.

I am not trying to say Win is bad, don't get me wrong :)
And i too was not intending to compare...
This day, it is not the case of what system has problem and what doesn't.
Every piece of software has mistakes.
It is in the way the system works. More like a phylosophy, not a code matter.
For me - Unix based systems are a more comfortable places to work, for you - Windows. As i said - it is a matter of taste.
Like... I love japanese cars, and never will even think about buying myself, say, German car. I perfectly know German cars are stable, well built, high quality... But they are made with a phylosophy different from mine. that's all.
So, i actually don't think Mac is totally better. It is just better for me :)
Anyway, it is not a place for religious wars :) You are right here!

:) Somehow Maxwell seems to attract passionate, spirited people with a strong opinion. :)

Anyway, let's go back to the ideal Maxwell PC system please. Thanks again for your feedback.

Now, back to the topic!

Thanks Boris!

So right now I am still considering this system:

http://www.techspot.com/review/27-intel ... page6.html

What do you guys think? Do you think I should go for a dual quadcore or do you think that the price will become way too high compared to the speed increase?

If I'm right a dual quadcore machine would require special, expensive RAM, and I guess a single quadcore with 8 GB RAM would be a better choice than a dual quadcore with 4 GB RAM or even 8 GB, or am I wrong?

There needs to be more testing done on the Quadcore Xeons, especially on Vista to see if things improve in regards to that preliminary test on the Mac. Also it would be nice to see how far those Xeons can be overclocked. If it has the potential of the QX6700, such a system might be worth it.

The ideal maxwell machine will become available, when there will be quantum computers! Because the best thing they can do is quantum simulations - light interaction is the case!

...if they will be available anytime...
