My new system is up… what a treat :D, I'm coming from using a P4 Celeron 1.7ghz… My system specs…

Asus PC-DL Deluxe Motherboard
2 Xeon 3.06ghz CPUs
2 gig DDR Ram
Asus GeForce 6600 256mb DDR AGP video card
300gig SATA Maxtor hard drive
OCZ GameXStream 600W Power Supply

In the future I’m going to add 2 more gigs of ram and also a DVD burner (I'm using my old cd burner right now.

nice one, i put my dual xeon 3.06 on ebay the other week and the highest anyone bid was £300 so i kept it :(
i also had those heatsinks on them but it didnt keep them cool enough so i had to go water cooling at the end.
hope to see loads of cool renders from the beast :)

I'm surprised you didn’t get offered more for you system..What kind of temperatures were you seeing with those heatsinks? I also upgraded from the stock fans the heatsink came with.

The hottest I seen my system get so far…
Motherboard- 57c
CPUS- 51c
GPU diode- 56c
I know that the cpus I have are rated up to 73c… not sure if my temperatures are normal or something to worry about.

It all looks a bit 'tight' in there Mark, I'd be worried about airflow especially running those two xeons.....

I chose a big server case [in-win] for my quad Opteron, lots of space in there:

It runs very cool on an overnight cook [about 42C] and the fans rarely have to up their tempo.

Just a thought, but the case you chose might be problematic? The PSU right on those CPU fans........and the small outlet fan etc.....

Thanks Max, I might still use the Celeron for when I do web development… although I thought about taking a hammer to the thing in the past

Hey Glebe,
Yea, that was one of my concerns when I case arrived… the description and pictures were very miss leading when I purchased it. I have no room what so ever in that case.

Is that a 120mm fan I see in the back of your case? I have one of those fans sitting here… I was thinking about blowing a hole in the side of my case (have a 80mm on the side as well right now) and throwing that fan it until I can get a better case… believe it that was one of the specs when I was ordering my case so I ordered a 120mm fan as well just to fin out that I could use it.

agreed on the case and airflow. my computer use to shut off when the cpus got too hot (cant rem what temp they got to), until i got the watercooling on. might be worth getting a larger case though as glebe digital said.

Yeah if you can possibly do it, stick in the 120mm fan....... :)

Nice setup Mark, enjoy!

You'll sure feel a difference

If you add fans, make sure they're actually taking air in, 5 outtakes won't help a thing if you got no fresh air coming in. In fact it's preferable to have a little overpressure in your case so that the dust doesn't come crawling in. If you're not gonna overlock, those load temperatures are fine anyway though so there's no need to change anything, except maybe putting the case fans on 7v if they happen to be the loudest part.
