hi all !

i search for some projects that have been done in CorTen steel... has anyone some cool links ?
no matter if it's art, landscape architecture or built architecture...

i use CorTen in my design for this semester (well, i study architecture).

most of all i need some tips how large plates can be bought from in the industry. largest dimensions ? they need to be around 7 to 10 mm...

Downside ( besides expensive price) of the corten, is you sometimes cannot control corrosion, and it might rust big for real..( not to be used near sea or in mist atmospheres!

The infamous Rostlaube of course, a great design and a sad story.
Crystal Palace Park in London has a nice rusty bandstand built by Ian Ritchie.
Lets see some nice Cor-Ten mxm soon

Hopefully my personal "Rostlaube-story" (rusty hut-story) ends a bit better. The following is also called "Rostlaube" and shows one of the designs, I developed on the search for more contemporary forms for huts in alotment gardens. (We have these gardens all over the place in Germany). As I have just been invited for a garden show with that one, there is not a bad chance, that this one actually gets built. The facade ornament btw. shows the stylized structures of lamellas of mushrooms. No clip map, all geometry.

WOW, polyxo !

that's a great project !!

it reminds me of another project that was presented to us some time ago. some guys lasered cool natural forms out of steel plates and used them for balconies or bus-stop-houses... cool !

do You have an idea if such large pieces are available ?

i'd need to know if plates of 3 by 3.5 meters are available, 8mm in thickness...

I'm not sure how big they get but we've used some pretty large ones in projects 10'x10' and you could weld together smaller panels and clean up the seams.

BTW, technically it's called "weathering steel". Corten is a Trademark of one companies "weathering steel" and if you search for information on "weathering steel" you may find more information that limiting yourself to only the Corten brand.

Nice work too!

Thank you, glad you like it!
About size, I would agree with andrebaros. It is quite rare in Europe, that thick sheets of metal exeed 2m/1m (just think of the weight).
Maybe you should ask at a shipyard - they need large sheets. However, they will need different, easily bendable steel qualities there.
