Maybe it would be better to use a system (much like pack and go) that would take all the files needed to remotely render the scene, compress them, and then send them. This compressed file could then be distributed as needed.

This would mean that commercial textures would not be shared, and you wouldn't have to create the almighty MXM database :D

Thanks for looking into it Leonardo. Let us know if you hear anything else.

Cheers,
Dr Merman

Yeah, a pack and go that would encript the textures would be great, but it will increase the size of files being transfered :?

Perhaps you guys shuold stop buying already made textures and start making your own... :P

BTW
doesn't daros have the same limitations? you have to use its own textures while using Metadorlight (<-sp?)
I could be wrong though

My guess -- all the files need to be encrypted and not user readable in any way.

If I'm rendering something for a client, I can't afford for everyone to be able to read the files.

Encryption for the mxm, textures and output is critical for all concerned.

somebody on the indigo forum brought back a sfw we already discussed here a while back:
http://www.hamachi.cc/download/
Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private networking (VPN) application.

In other words Hamachi is a program that allows you to arrange multiple computers into their own secure network just as if they were connected by a physical network cable.
Now hamachi is completely crossplatform.
BTW, anybody succeeded with that solution?
