Okay, so this thread isn't that relevant until I do the M~R v1.1 Speed Test, but I'm doing a scene that I've been working on from home on my machine. It's a dual Opteron 2.8 ghz system. So I brought it to work to run on the "monster" machine here. It's a dual dual-core Xeon 3.4 ghz, x64, 8 gigs RAM. Now I know the RAM won't make much difference beyond being able to handle a larger MXI while rendering, but my home machine's benchmark is 10.4 and the one at the office 10.83.

Does that really make sense? I mean it's using two more cores (and yes, I do have all 4 threads running). Is the Opteron really that much better than the Xeon, or does it have something to do with running it in a 64 bit enviornment? Any thoughts?

I'll do the M~R v1.1 Speed Test soon, after this rendering finishes.

Sorry, but what's the exact cpu for the xeon machine? A dual dual xeon dempsey 5050 (w/hyperthreading so 8 cpu's on windows task manager) will, for example, behave very similar to dual AMD opteron machines, while dual dual xeon 5150's have a signifigant jump in speed, so from 5050 to 5150 for example its a huge leap...
