I think it would really help to be able to render a scene on to different layers, like in Photoshop so you can edit them later.

yes,...multipassrendering would be awesome...and to render into a compositingProjectFile would be great to....

Maybe, layer composing for light

direct light layer
indirectlight
indirectcautic etc

for compsiting and less noise is a good thing
