Of course each person has their own sensitivities... melodies and sounds that make us stop and listen. Some are partial to drums, piano, guitar ...

... but there is something about stringed instruments ... that I find quite often have the richest melody, often conveying the more subtle of emotions and harmony.

Personally, it feels as if both of my brain cells are tuned to the violin frequencies. Every time a melody starts to make sense, or a portion of a song becomes appealing, it most often caused by the inclusion of a violin somewhere in the composition.

So here I would like to dedicate this thread to this instrument.
Anyone who is also partial to violins, please feel free to contribute

A few of my favorite violin or fiddle players are David LaFlame (Its A Beutiful Day) , "Sugarcane" Harris (Mothers of Invention and John Mayall), Vassar Clements (bluegrass) and whats-his-name Goodman with the 1970's Mahavishnu Orchestra (jazz fusion) and Jean Luc Ponty.
And any good Classical.
I've read that of all the traditional instruments, the violin most closely imitates or simulates the human voice and thus its appeal. I don't know if that's the reason I like it, but it can be an hypnotic and emotionally charged sound.

Vassar, has an interesting cheerful/playful sound. I am not always fond of it, but I appreciate the light tempo (in the blue grass it has a country/wildWest kinda music sound. No ?).

Yes, Vassar is pure bluegrass, emphasis on *blue*. Very expressive. I'm less sure of the *wild west* flavor. Bluegrass and western swing are actually very different. Differentiating between them is impossible for me to explain. I'm not good at descriptions relative to musical sounds.
Every once in a while I just need to play "Willy The Pimp" by Frank Zappa and "Sugarcane" Harris. There is just something very primal about it.
"Bombay Calling", "Bulgaria", "White Bird" and "Time" by D. LaFlame are also on that list of must listen to every so often.
Don't get me started, the list will go on and on.
