G'day!

It been ages since i posted anything in the gallery and a long time since i rendered anything with Maxwell so now i thought i'd run a real life test of the material i made for the candy challenge to see how it would behave in a simple yet quite effective setup.

This scene has it's main light and reflections provided by a hdri map of a house, and there's a small fill lightplane that just provides very little extra light on the side but it's not much at all.

I let it render over night for 8 hours 33 minutes 55 seconds and it reached SL 14,58 at 1600x1200 resolution.

The candy itself is just a simple model i made in Modo, then the scene is setup in C4D and Maxwell Studio. Setup time was perhaps a whole 15 minutes totally including modeling :)

Hi! looking good, but.... i think material must be have some SSS & circle in the center of candy mast be more smooth IMHO

Olivier: Thanks

jenyaz: Thanks, and yes i tried with SSS but i couldn't get satisfactory results and it added so little also that it wouldn't be visible unless the scene was overexposed. And then i thought i'd skip it and hoped i could get away without SSS in it :D but yes you're right, if it worked better then i would definately have added that to this as it would have improved the quality alot more and made it realistic.

Btw, maybe i shouldn't have posted this in the main Gallery. It feels more like a silly testrendering so if any moderator wanna move it elsewhere then feel free to do so.

You are too funny .... nice pick and great render!

Max., .. I think the 'Original' candies have some SSS going on .... and maybe you'll have to mess with the attenuation a little too.

great stuff tho ..... ;)

Edit:

Oops ... sorry , ... I see jenyaz mentioned the sss. I think he's right on both points.

Hyltom: Thank you :D

Ivox: Hehe :D thanks! yeap you said it Chris, there's a little bit of SSS going on in the real deal. The attenuation hmm.. i'll look into that one, you got a sharp eye for details.

Thomas: Many thanks :) i'm glad you liked it.

Tom: Cheers & thanks so much :) glad you too liked it.

Jeff: Hehe, these are hard candy's, not soft. But they can do a give your fillings a equally hard beating :D

I'm gonna rework the material a bit more to try to get some SSS in there and then i'll be squeezing in some nice dof aswell as they're not the size of small planets :) ..expect an updated revision 2.0 either tonight or tomorrow of this.

[Edit] : I played around with the simple scene and material last night and tweaked things some more but at the same time i messed it up and the whole subject is outta focus and blurry :( and the lighting and material ain't that fun anymore so i'll be ditching this and moving on to other stuff.

And a quick Multilight test with this rendering..
