Hi Juan,

It’s been a bit quiet in the FormZ section so I thought I’d try and get things moving. I’ve been using MaxwellZ a lot lately with great success and some very happy clients. It’s nice to see Maxwell working the way I hoped it would all along. It really is a great achievement and a definite milestone in rendering technology.

During the last few projects I’ve started to note down some of the issues that I’ve been coming across. I hope the following is useful for the development of the next version of MaxwellZ.

1. I’ve mentioned this before, but the settings in MaxwellZ keep resetting to their default values. This occurs when using the “edit cone of vision” tool, updating external symbol libraries, making cups of coffee, etc. Sometimes it just seems to reset out of the blue.

2. When applying MXM materials to objects MaxwellZ doesn’t remember the last folder location that was used. This means that for every texture you need to navigate to the correct folder. It would be great if MaxwellZ remembered the last folder that you used and even better if you could set a default file path in the plugin.

3. Mid to high polygon count objects with MXM materials can take a very, very, very long time to export.

4. There is a conflict with FormZ textures and MXM textures. If I apply a FormZ texture to an object, say a wood image, and then use the query tool to apply an MXM texture to the object, say a stone image, then the render will ignore the stone image in the MXM file and use the wood texture instead.

Any news/comments on the points raised above? Also, a question raised by a few other users, will the next release of MaxwellZ work with FormZ v5.5 or will we have to upgrade to v6.0?

Hi Nik,

The plugin is already in testing phase; although there are still some issues to fix. We are trying to fix the 4 issues you posted and a lot of other that were reported before. To get the most of the new features (better mxm integration, better workflow and memory handling...etc) it is necessary to upgrade to v6.0, the sdk is completely new and some new features are impossible to develop in previous versions.
