Hi all,

Have you guys had any experience (good/bad) with these:
-> Click 'N Burn CD & DVD
-> Amazing CD & DVD Burner
-> DeepBurner Free

Any other suggestions ? ... I am looking for something reliable and not bloated (tired of Nero and stuff).

Plextor Plextor Plextor.

Hi Thomas ...

Maybe the free stuff is good too, ....I wouldn't know, ..I'm all about Plextor drives. In five years I've never had a single error, uncrecognized media, nothing. In my experience they've been exceptionally great with the RW formats ... I have a CD over here that's been written to maybe 500 times, ...The back is nearly black ...still working.


The drive can also write a full 1GB to a 700MB disk with its proprietary firmware.

Hi, I used to have a Plextor drive, it was a workhorse indeed ... the only problem was that every once in a while (during boot) the drive would make a buzzing / vibrating sound (as if the spindle was picking the CD in a misaligned way). It didn't seem to hurt it ... as it kept working for a few years... it just didn't give me the "Lexus" (velvety) feeling ... if you know what I mean. Now I am into NEC and Toshiba's (my Pioneer slot-loading didn't last ... and I thought Pioneers were good ... oh well)

In any case. I really doubt it is a hardware issue. I always had concerns about some software. InCD for example would make my PC freeze every now and then (with the Plextor drive back then). Nero Express is giving me problems too, as it can't erase CDrw reliably and the discs are brand new. My BackUp4All utility is working like a champ ... it has its own CD/DVD algorithms and it works every time and passes all checksums...

I really think its a software issue.

Interesting, ... well, it's definitely 'velvety' over here. Plus the drive has a -whisper mode- if sound is some kind of issue. I've never used it, ...seems quiet enough.

I don't know ....maybe it's time to take a second look at Px, ....your call Thomas. gL.
