Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

The material library was a brilliant idea. everyone knew that people would try to copy it. As well as the physical sky, and many other great ideas originated by NL

Well, on this fierce competition. Patents are the soul of the business.

by the way how do I do this on maxwell? Is this done with displacement maps? And have you noticed the strange pattern of the background.. are those patches reflection?

<mumbles something about displacement...>

:D

I think those patches are different grey colours (40% grey, 60% grey etc....) for some reason.

I believe those patches are one of the great things we get to avoid by using Maxwell.....GI splotches! Also, I think I read that the first 'crispy' image rendered for 1.5 hours!

:shock:

Yep, that's what I was thinking it is... Vray renders look good but those dark or Light bloches are much too common on its renders. It ruins the whole thing.

The displacement is great, but shouldn't there be any caustics there, from all that irregular surface? Also it looks like it's floating a bit. Btw, give at least some credit where it is due, NL took the initiative and made this site, now everybody is doing the same. We've seen a lot of that lately :roll:

Caustics would be too much trouble, you'd have to actually set that up separately I think, hehe. And yeah, the MXM website is a great combination of ThomasAn + NL!

Mi~Hai is right.
