Ok Daros... i'll try to send you the file (where to?) : : But here is the problem in more detail

the Error is "Error createmesh not enought vertexes"

it happens only when i load the obj file i exported from Sketchup but the 3DS file works OK... problem is i need the material layer division of the OBJ format, the 3DS comes with layers for the geometry not the material.

one more issue is the smooth check box - when on all the model looks BAD with that material.

i'm also checking Sketchup's end on this issue... maybe the OBJ exporter is the cause for all this errors... answers soon

Hi bakbek,
send the file at arkadin et arkadin.biz

The problem s that many formats like 3ds or obj that apparently are "standards" are saved in a different way by each program.
D'ont ask me why.
We d'ont tested it all.

Well... thanks Daros, but i found the problem... in Sketchup one needs to toggle the force Export triangles with the OBJ exporter in order for Matadorlight to work with it ok.

i just thought that OBJ is OBJ, i guess not.

now that this issue is in the clear i'm on to texture testing. keep up the good work Daros (u will, will you???) Matadorlight is a very good tool for now as a sketchup user

In Rhino to have a correct Layer translation to all formats you need first to:
isolate each Layer and, in "Layer Properties", put a name in to the "Surface Name".
Then export the file. Best formats for MatadorLight are 32bit formats like obj or lwo. 3DS is a 16 bit format and supports only 32K polygons for each Layer.

Yes, if you press render Matadorlight creates a mxs file in the in the same directory you saved the scene.
Remember to define a complete path for the "image path" like z:\images\cucu.jpg
Remember to, to assign a meterial to all Layers.

daros: I've managed to use MatadorLight to render a couple of basic scenes with Maxwell Render. However, is it possible to use caustics or is that something planned for the future.

buffos: I was getting write errors caused by having spaces between file names.

ie: 'maxwell twirl' wouldn't write a .mxs file because of the space between the words.

Changing to 'maxwelltwirl' cured the problem.

Perhaps this may help with one of your difficulties.

buffos: Another problem I encountered was MatadorLight not seeing an object when loaded. This turned out to be because no UV info was present in the exported model.

This doesn't seem to be causing your difficulties though.

Perhaps daros will respond soon.

One thing i will like it to have is to be able to export the scene in mxl format so i can use it on OSX, I'm using virtual pc with XP Pro but using maxwell in it is painfully slow. Is this possible and i dont know how to do it, can it be implemented in the future????

Hope you answer soon Daros

Hi again

I keep getting this weird error when i try to start MatatorLight, and i cannot see what to do and how to fix it. Any ideas and/or suggestions would be welcome.

This is the first pop-up i get when i try to start it..

Maximus3D: I kept getting those errors when I used MatadorLight the first few times.

The maxwell directory should point to the folder maxwell is in. It should work even taking into account the space in /Next Limit/...

Open the congure menu and make sure you have set the directories. In the 'data directory' make sure that you have no file spaces in your folder names. I use my scene project folder for this because I like things in one place.

I hope that helps.

Yea i know of those settings too, but this error occurs even before i get the interface itself up. So i cannot chance any settings within the program itself, i'll give it a try to check in any config or ini files to see if there's anything in there that's causing this odd behaviour.

Thanks for your reply, i appreciate it :)

Nicolas Rivera: I hope MatadorLight will receive some future support because even in it's early stages it works very well. Perhaps Daros is busy at present?
