I've just noted PNG or BMP images of the test scene representing the MXM can't be saved to your HD. They save as *.file and can't be opened in photoshop either.

You mean saving from mxcl once the render is done? You have to specify a file ending, myfile.tif, if you want to save it as tif, myfile.jpg for jpeg etc...

Sorry mate I already understand that.

But what I mean is if I click on the thumbnail image on the gallery to view the larger 500 x 500 image, then right click that image to save it to my HD for future reference if it is in PNG or BMP format it saves only with the *.file extension and can't be viewed later.

No problems with JPG images just PNG/BMP.

Did you try renaming the saved file from *.file to *.png or *.bmp in the file system? The data should be there, but you're image viewer doesn't know what a *.file is.
