Such problems may cause incorrectly extracted files or missing registry records, too.
The way I would test that is to reinstall V1.0 and see if it works. If the V1.0 install is successful, then that would rule out installer corruption and point to a problem with the V1.1 exe it is trying to install.

But if that's the case, how would 1.1 installer work on other systems?

We haven't established that that is the case yet.

 whoah this is a tough one to follow...well, try the suggestions mentioned here, if they don't wonk, drink three Absolute Cranberry Smashes (2 oz Vodka, 4 Cranberry juice, 2 Seagrams bitter) and break out the OS install discs. We reinstall xp all the time here its like second nature lol :)

Ok i am home now. The point is that my Windows image backup file is very clean. The system that is saved there has a runtime of a few hours without internet contact, virus, worm, anti virus software or other things that could bring Windows down.

I will give a new installation a try, but don't expect much, because i don't know what i will do different except that v1.1 will be the first application.

The only programs i have installed are serious programs like Cinema 4D, Quicktime, Adobe Reader and a few more.
Frances wrote:Vinys, have you defragged your hard drive lately? Does an error check come out okay? It's possible that your installation landed on a bad sector. I only say this because you say your athlon is older, so your hard drive might be showing age.
No the hard disk is ok. I have installed in several folders.
tom wrote:I think I would say, why everybody else could install and run or vinys is the only Athlon owner here?
I don't know? Are there other Athlon (not Athlon XP) users?

My installation file is ok, a friendly one has checked it with the CRC-sum i have mentioned before.

So i will try a fast new installation on monday or so.

Thanks to all!

Today i have installed Windows XP Professional with SP2 and all updates. I have made a backup and installed v1.1 as the first application. Crash when starting mxcl, etc. I have played back the backup, installed the newest nvidia driver and then v1.1. Crash when starting mxcl, etc.

I have made a ram test, harddisk test and a cpu stress test without errors.

v1.0 is working.

What now? Please help.

PS: i have installed v1.1 on an other computer (Pentium III) and it works. So the installation file is ok.

vinys, you may need to check this out, but I think NL 'strongly recommend' SP1 for v1.1.
NTFS or FAT32? Sure I read something about that somewhere.

Ok, know it is clear that v1.1 doesn't work on old Athlons.

Thanks.

so... perhaps mw 1.1 is compiled with a compiler-setting that needs a CPU with SSE-Support?

and sorry for you vinys :(

Exactly what i have assumed a few days before. But in that case it would have been kind when NL had mentioned that new restriction with the release of v1.1. That would have saved me a lot of time.

I will send an email to NL and ask for clarification.

I am bringing this up again as I have had the same problem here at home. My system is as follows:
AMD Athlon(tm) processor 1.2 GHz
384 MB Memory
37.27 GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro Ver. 6.14
Windows XP SP2 Professional 5.1 (Build 2600)
I have had MR v1.0 running fine; I have uninstalled MR1.0, installed MR1.1 and no go. Have done things several times, freeing up HD space, defrag etc. but have not gone as far as reinstalling Windows. And still no go but reinstalling MR1.0 --- it works fine.
WHATS UP???
This is a problem in my as I now can not tinker and learn with MR at home and then get the job done at work.
