Ok,
My we try to find an other better free 3d formats library that support new XSI formats.

tarlack wrote:Yes and no. All the texturing stuff is in general lost during translation. But i've seen it can take .obj files, and a plug-in for cinema 4d, which name is riptide, permits to have a very good translation from cinema 4d files to this format, so it's a very good news!
thank you very much daros!
I have riptide, I will give it a go this weekend!

Thanks Tarlack!

Thanks for such a cool tool, I hope I get the time to try Matador out for XSI.

Thank you for this. I'm still waiting for the C4D plugin so, in the meantime, this has allowed me to try and get to grips with the Maxwell Material/Layer system.

Just installed Matador and exported a very simple scene in OBJ format, from C4D, using 'Riptide'.

Have a basic Maxwell rendering as I type.

Excellent.

Hi!
New version of MatadorLight is available.

Set focal distance by pressing "d" key and klicking on the wanted object.
Sef focal lenght with the "f" key.

fixed scene reloading bug and the missed color information in scenes with sky dome.

daros: Just letting you know the download link for MatadorLight doesn't work at the moment.

The new options don't work with the files from this link... is it the new version ? ? ?

Ph0n33z: When you have imported the object/s into Matador and assigned materials you save as ???.mxs into the data folder where Matador/Maxwell will access it at render time.

I had the same problem at first so you are not alone!

I seem to have some problems with units... what is the units matadorlight works with... ??? or can i change them somewere ???

Sorry, now the link works.

The units are meters. No at moment no wey to change unit scale. we can do it.

Since we activated the focal distance key "d" MatadorLight 1.01 needs to create first a collision detection model. So for bigger models you need to wait a moment. For a 1.000.000 aprox 30 seconds. It's a backround task so you can do other things at the same time.

Saver: hi save is own format "mxl".

In the directory put as "maxwell directory" the path to the folder containig the mxcl.exe.
As "data directory" put a directory for Matador Light. In this directory MatadorLight creates his Material libray and Texture Library.

daros: Thank you for fixing the download link.

Also, it is very kind of you to produce MatadorLight, especially for Maxwell users still waiting on Next Limit to complete the various Maxwell plugins.

Even with my 'rough and ready' experiments I feel Maxwell Render has some amazing potential.

This is a great app... obj export from SketchUP creates layers via materials in the model - this is great, but i would like the option to select some geometry for differant material assignment... can this be done ? ? ?

some more issues : :

navigating the scenes is hard... depending on the origin i guess ? ? ? sometimes i get black screen on object load and it takes some time until i find it in the viewport.

some scenes genereate a "createmesh" error ... or somthing like this and the MXS file is not created . . . what can i do to find the problem ? ? ?

Thanks very much Daros... this is a great app so far. as a sketchup user i love the option to render with maxwell without the transit into MAX or the likes.

Can you send me please one of the files that causes the "createmesh" error?
You are sure to have assigned to all layers a material?

thanks

bakbek: I use Cinema4D so things may be slightly different.

For my obj exports to have different materials assigned to different polygons I would need to select the poly's in question and assign them thier own material tag. then craete a new material with a unique name and link it to the selection tag I craeted (very quick really - it just seems long winded writing it down!)

Then at export stage I would export by material regions (using a seperate obj export plugin). In Matador I will see my named materials in the layer boxes. That's the method I used to get around C4D's poor obj export with a render I have running at the moment.

Otherwise you may have to split the mesh entirely and do whatever is needed in your software to make them into their own objects.

Overall I agree Matador is very good and lets us non-plugins people have a dabble with Maxwell Render.

I haven't found anything in Matador to enable caustics but I suppose, like Maxwell Render, it's early days.
