Errr, maybe my eyes are finally shot. DOF is different (or 1.0 dof is much improved?!)?!? Gamma is different for these two images? Could it be?!?

Perhaps two identical images a bit larger, maybe interior images, no dof, would a more valid means of judgement? :)

Id have to say that image 1 is v1, and image 2 is beta...dof tell the story.

ya the dof in BEta was kinda broken if you used a Polygon diaghram.. a better comparison would be to render the two scnes with exactly the same camera angle.. the same fstop (dof) and USE CIRCULAR diagram so that the boken effect dont give away the identity of the beta..

btw i think the v1 looks better..

in general these smaller scenes seem better in v1(like jewlery and macro shots of object, product visualisation).. BUT the alpha/BETA scenes seem to look awsome for large scale scenes... intereior room scenes and Outdoor images..

i still think alpha is greatest .. because of bounce control & fog.. (daros' work with alpha is amazing) unfortunatly alpha/beta dont do hdri env's which is whats VERY nice in V1 is the wonderful multi-per "channel" hdri workflow...

How many times have you used fog in your Maxwell renders?

Hallo Misterasset,

I read here from time to time. I have used Maxwell a half year from last alpha to RC1. In this time I have used Maxwell as hobbyhorse. Since the beginning of this year I have start to work as freelance for 3D visualisation. I don't trust NL anymore. To much wrong anouncements and the support is not useful for my professional work.

My work base on Rhino3D. A long time the development of the Rhino plugin was freeze without any comment of NL. Vray for Rhino was my escape.
Now, Maxwell 1.0 is out, but the plugin is in beta state. An usage per studio makes no sense for me. I'm very happy that Vray for Rhino help me to do my work now. It's in beta state too, but I can use it for my daily work. If I find a bug, critical for my work, I get very fast help from the developing team. OK, the GI settings are more complex, but Vray give me the speed I need at my architectural scenes. I can choose how I work - in slow "Maxwell mode" or in fast biased mode.

Maxwell is a nice toy, but I don't find time to play with it. So long the plugin dosn't direct support the material system, it makes no sense to use it.
So with every new project I improve my skill with Vray. I invest much time to post bug reports for Vray for Rhino. And it is worth to do it. The developing team is working hard to fix any bug in a short time. If VfR is ready in a few days, than it is very matured, stable, fast, with integrated material editor, optimized worflow and great support - not a buggy final release ala Maxwell. I have spend much time on Maxwell and to post bugs and problems, but most I had the feeling, it was wasted time.

I have seen so much Maxwell renderings here Vray renderings in other forums and I belive, it's not a question of the render engine, to create good images. So, most important for me is, that I can trust the company of my tool for my daily work and that I get a good support. And that my render engine can be fast. In Vray I can choose between biased and "unbiased".

Thank you for your test. This kind of tests are very interesting. So I can see, what Maxwell could do for my work. I think, the problem of your scene is, that it dosn't show so much light interaction between the objects. To much colors and reflection. More interesting for me would be to see the quality of light bounces, best in an interior scene with white diffuse walls.

I have the feeling, in a few years Vray and Maxwell will be very similar. (example: architecture glass of Maxwell is like a Vray glass without caustic and colored shadows)
For now, I need a flexible tool to work.

Regards Micha

PS: I have got the plus license now. Maybe I will use it one of these days.

Juan,

Thanks for your support, you seem to be the only one bothering and honest with users! however the problem is the rhino plug-in for Micha, but it seem mosts plug-ins (exept 3dsmax perhaps) are problematic for their users and there is nothing new here..

Micha,

I fully agree with you. No need to say more..

Juan, why don't you talk to Victor and see if we can get some information on what the next update is going to be, what bugs will be fixed, what new features we can expect and a time line on when we will see V2. I know when V1 was released we were promised information but so far we haven't seen anything.

As far as I know it has only been available to those people using the early alpha version of Maxwell (?), so naturally not many have used fog/haze in their renders. I personally also would love to have this ability.
