Man, I love this thread. You guys are all putting wonderful pics up!

Maximus, yeah, that picture is fairly heavily processed. Not as much as it would seem, though. It's a picture of the skeleton of some kind of cactus with lots and lots of spring growth coming through it. Death Valley is normally among the most inhospitable places on the planet. In the spring though, it's really lovely. Last year, I went camping there with some friends during an anomalous spring-bloom. The entire desert was just awash in surreal numbers of flowers. Most were tiny, but some were larger. Apparently, they saw stuff blooming that year that no one even knew grew there.

Maximus, that's a really, really great shot. Did you use a macro lens for that?

Here's a shot of the People's Palace in Glasgow, just outside my flat:

And here's an update of the orchid, just inside my flat:

Hervé: Thanks a bunch :D i'm glad you liked it, hehe you know me too well tho, now you even know what i eat all my bananasplits with. No more secrets.. :)

Nik: The flower shot is great! very pretty and with a nice mood to it. You should take more photos from where you live, it looks pretty there :) cheers & thanks for the comments on my photo, yeap i used the macro mode on my camera for that shot of the spoon. It works quite well even tho i can only go 20mm close to a object :( i'd like to go even closer..

Kirk: Thank you! :)

Here's one more from today, a big old and rusty metal crane in the harbour downtown. It's no longer in use but during wintertime it stands in as a big metallic christmas tree filled with bulbs all over so it lights up nicely in the dark winter nights. I shot it in color ofcourse and then sized down the photo and converted it to greyscale as it looked kinda boring in color, well it's not that exciting in greyscale either if i'm honest hehe :D

... pretty cool crane Max... yep we have a lot of these here still... metal factory..

What was the primary use for that crane, besides Xmas tree..

I like the chains a lot...

one question.. do you just convert your RGB's to greyscale... or do you keep it rgb with no saturation... how about a bichrome...?

:) hiya Hervé and thanks!

Ahh you got the huge cranes there too, then you know what they look like. This one i think was used for loading stuff on and off cargoships which used to come here ages ago, probably around the time i was born because i can't remember ever seeing them in action.

For these greyscale photos i always make sure to keep the full RGB range intact and then i convert them via a plugin to greyscale to get as much as possible outta the images. I'm not sure tho if it makes a difference but i'd like to hope so hehe :D

Thanks Maximus, KirkT

Here are a couple of images from today. The first is another view of the People's Palace. The second is just a bit further along and is one of my favourite buildings in Glasgow, the former Templeton Carpet Factory. It was built in the 1890's and the brief was to make it look like Doge's Palace in Venice. It has to be seen to be believed! I promise I'll move a bit further afield in future but there is a lot of nice architecture surrounding my flat.
