This is an old scene I've done during the beta version and decide to do it again with V1 and redo all the materials to be mxms.
Still that not the result I'm waiting for from v1 but with the beta it looks some how better to me specially the color tint. Any Idea ?

both are nice,

i slightly prefer the v1images (beside the first pic, there i like the glowing parts of the pictures) they are not so yellowish. this is one thing i didnt like in beta, that the colors tend to be quite in the yellow range.
this looks pleasing but i think not real and also not good for "cooler" scenes.

i think it is because of the SSS... that was working in beta & not anymore in V1...

I think the beta looks better overall - more 'romantic' somehow (!)
while V1 seems slightly colder, more CG. (Still much better than RC5)

Perhaps in the last image set (flashlight) version V1 looks better.

Personally I find the benefits of multilighting and faster clearup times (not withstanding the difficulties in making materials) just give V1 the edge
over the beta. Once they've rewritten the material handling part of maxwell I think it will be fine.

It seems slightly colder because the wall is more saturated with blue in the V1 pic......funny nobody mentions how the bowl looks in beta compared to V1. Which do you prefer there?

Mihai, Absolutly the glass material is more efficient than beta. and still need more testing to get the right one. anyway, don't be shock this is my reference

Okay here is a one rendered in VRay By Andrea Papini.. Greate Work Papini ,, we worked on this image at the same time without knowing each other until we had post it at the same time on CGTalk.. what a coincident

Mahai - it's all very subjective isn't it? While I agree that the fruit bowl is obviously better in V1 I still find as an overall impression that the beta is the least CG looking. I imagine it's to do with the overall light distribution.

V1 still has a residual 'harshness' that appeared in the RC's. Also interesting to note the progress Vray has made in recent years. You might argue that the reflection on the light is best in the Vray image.

It's all a bit like comparing new Coke to Classic Coke. Everyone will have a differing opinion. Eventually you don't remember which is which.

Once NL gets the material generation nailed, Maxwell will look even better.

And one might also argue that if you had compared the picture to the Vray render, but said the picture was a V1 render, everybody would say it looks too harsh and unrealistic

Mihai you might also argue that as long as people turn up here to critisize and offer their thoughts that it shows they still care about where maxwell goes...

Both the Beta and V1 versions of the renders have their strong and weak points. V1 has definately better glass but a softer look. Beta render is sharper and more vibrant (due to sharpness I think). Metals seem more alive in beta as well.

You have to remember also the exact same camera settings can't be used as in the beta because V1 has much more accurate calibration to real life values. Also the flash look will usually not look very nice in most cases. Will look very harsh.
