I wrote that to the big Maxwell wishlist but I don't see the topic updated. Anyway,I think this is very important for all.

Maxwell users have to do everything from the begining. On the contrary, other renderers that can read and understand models with standard or architectural materials (Max materials) can take advantage of the millions of 3d models (free or not) that we find around the web.
There are great collections like Evermotion archmodels, RPC content, LowPolygon3D humans etc.

I think NL should be able to make an agreement with some of these companies to provide us with 3d models ready to use. Except RPC I don't see why we can't have all the others.
We have the best but slowest renderer, no need to translate everything to maxwell too. We should be able to use some Maxwell ready models to save time.

(10-15 models free with maxwell, and have 400-500 models in various collections).

When i use Vray, final render, or Mental Ray I don't use standard Max materials. They generally don't work very well and can cause problems and rendering artefacts.

Ok, but you know that you are able to find or buy many 3d models of various quality and price for Vray (Evermotion) .

yea fair enough, maybe it's something that evermotion will do.

Good suggestion, but a 3rd party developer like Evermotion as you suggested j_man could do it, or if some of us users do it and then we share those preset models on the forum in a restricted area so forum users can use them as they wish.

We are all making our own personal library but this is unofficial. I mean, you make a blue carpaint color as you like or as you think it is correct. I make a brick wall with a small texture of 640x640... and everyone else has a way of doing things. Materials are a matter of taste. Models on the other hand are good or bad. I don't do any modeling, I would like to be able to have professional furniture maxwell-ready for my visualizations. I am an engineer, not a CG prof.
I think it is critical and also a good advertisment for the product.

But what do you mean by Maxwell-ready models? A model is a model, it's just geometry....

It means the models are all prepared, like the model of a coffetable, it'll be all textured, it has Maxwell materials all set and ready so it's just possible to drop in a scene and render it out without having to fiddle with setting up materials. It's good for all those guys and girls who aren't modelers and and prefer the drag'n'drop way of work to create their scenes.

There are plenty of object libraries, and afaik most don't come with textures.

So what he really wants is a material library, since plenty of models are already available. But then again he said he's not interested in materials, just the models.....so

Exactly what I want. Only a small correction, it is not what I prefer, it is what I can do (at least for now).

But if you have a mapped coffee table, all you have to do is pick your material (let say you have five different woods already setup) and bob's your uncle.

j_man: Not quite like that.. different type of woods have different properties and reacts differently to light and it's surroundings so you would have to redo the Maxwell material aswell to adapt it to the new type of wood for your coffeetable if you want it to be somewhat realistic.

no you wouldn't, you've already set up your MXM. I think you're mixing up texture with material. Apply your chosen MXM and you're ready to go.

the problem with that kinda model set you'd wish, is that they should be optimized for each programs, 3dmax likes triangle, c4d likes quadrangle and so on...

evermotions are great models even if sometimes it would be great not to have the model in full rez converted in obj ( just the low rez without smoothing tag for example) because it makes a lot of poly in the end...
