When working with the 3ds max material editor with mxm materials the max material editor crashes max when trying to maximize the selected material slot.

Seem this could be a known issue since I believe the max material editor uses the current render engine for material preview.

this is annoying for sure, though I don't know if it can easily be solved.

meanwhile you can try like this:

mine crashes and I just reinstalled xp and max on my machine. everything is still in default. (i haven't tweeked anything yet) so if max is set at default and is crashing I would say it's a maxwell bug. now, could it have something to do with the graphics set up? (just wild guessing on my part)

Graphics setup wouold be my guess.

I did manage to make my colleagues machine crash, same setup as mine (ATI) so I'm none the wiser!
Thay are brand new also.

I believe the maxwell material editor is supplying the previews in max, so yeah it could be a plugin bug but it was suggested that I post it here.

Well updated my graphics drivers still no avail (running ATI mobility 9600) tried DX9 and opengl still crashes. So well their you have it.

Seems to be an ATI related issue. SInce it seems to be working ok with nvidia chipsets.

 now this is strange, or... it is a revenge against super hardware... because my crappy ati radeon 7200 64Mb seems to handle it pretty good... (problems come when I need to handle a bunch more polygons with it, but it is completely not maxwell related). :?
