incredible :)

Thanks NL for the 2x license!!!
It´s not about a box, or even a manual but about getting the product we payed for.

Some of you guys really are THE customers any company can ever dream of having.
First the company treat you like air for a year, then the product you pre-ordered gets stripped from one promised feature after another only to be moved to the next version, which you will have to pay for again.
And the best part is, that in the end, you actually thank them for it.
Incredible.

Well I bought a cheap piece of Beta-ware in December and it's already paid for itself -plus another Athlon X2 to boot- since then............I've just heard that I've got another 4-core licence for free so of course I'm happy. :)

The basics of MWR may be simple, but the underlying science is not. I happen to have a background in photography, so I understand the analogies, but even those are not simple, and building realistic materials will have many complexities. I suspect the docs will be slim but need to be read over and over to have some of the hard bits really sink in.
Spot on, Ernest. I have been collecting the underlying science references made in the MW forum for some time to study. BTW, I have printed and read the M~R "manuals". Given the changes to M~R since a., b. and the RCs, the "manual" should be substantially expanded.

The Maxwell manual won't be 1000 pages long, if you really want a printed version to read when you're not at the computer, it would take 10 minutes to print. Not that it will be 10 pages long either but a b/w printer can print at least 8 pages/min. This is not really such a huge issue...

You will learn much more about getting stunning images out of Maxwell by reading some books on photography, which will also teach you the basics of different kinds of materials and how to photograph them, how they react to light.

Glad you´re happy about it. Me, i got a piece of slow buggy software that crashes far to often for my taste. A few more licenses wont fix that.

for me the 2x license means 34.000 $. It's the biggest gift i ever recived from a company.
So Thanks again NL.
I was waiting too for V1.0 and now we will have a never expected fuction like "multilight" . Multilight for me means about a 50% workflow speed increase. That's an other big gift from NL.

I've sent e-mails to Maya and to the e-mail address Victor gave out and I've not received a response from either. That either means there on vacation or there trying to figure out what their going to do. It seems clear though that some people with more than one license have received e-mails saying that they would get a free copy for every license they owned.

I don't know about you, but for me this is a different picture.

Don't get me started on NL's CRM. I am far from being happy with
the Cinema plugin either, and I expect that NL fixes the major issues free
of charge with 1.x releases (they said so btw).

However, after all this is a massive effort, and in the end I will still have a
software that renders stuff I can't do elsewhere. We are not just lacking
features, we also get a couple that I would have never expected.

So, one day I aked myself:
Would I invest what I have invested knowing the current beta would be
final and the current plugin an ugly hack? I really don't know, but the
answer wouldn't be a clear NO.
I would not recommend it yet to others, or plan with it in a commercial
operation already. After all, this is prerelease software, and avoiding 1.0
is a safe business strategy for the faint of heart.

However, I just decided to move on and use my energy in a more
positive way. Composure is a virtue.

May be a bit late. Thanks for the extra license. April could be a very good month. Unfortunately it's unusually cold in this country (Netherlands), so spring hasn't really started.

It's a good start to offer the extra license for free.

But still arch-viz main problems are not solved.
These are:
- Glass/sunlight
- Clip maps
- Insufficient plugin quality
(among others)

So it's not impossible, but very, very hard to use it for archviz.

It will be not solved on v1.0 and has no date to be solved.
So I'm sorry but I'm not happy.

Please don't mind my additions to your "among others": working Mac and Linux versions. Thx

There have also been mentions of better-working plug-ins. I hope that everyone ends up on the same playing field come April 26th, regardless of their platform or 3d app of choice. 8)
