And everybody knows it isn't a legitmate piece of software if you can download it. Real software requires you to stand in line at Fry's Electronics for 6 hours in a cloud of computer-nerd ass-crack vapors listening to discussions of Lord of the Rings role-playing adventures before you can purchase it. In fact, come to think of it, nothing you can do on a computer is legitimate. Only that which can be etched in rockface with a piece of flint is real. Me Grok. Me like fire.

Environmental issues aside, I think it was a bit OTT myself. I'm pretty sure that cloud of computer-nerd ass-crack vapors has figured out how to get their software online.

the chance to download software from an server via internet is very good in my opinion ... u dont have to pay any vat , to wait , to be worried about possible expedition misfortune.... i do think any software producer should give its software in this very confortable, fast and secure way ( withot cd , box and so on ) besides if u happen to broke your cd no worry... u can immediatewly download it on internet... fantastic... :)

I'm kind of into the "instant gratification, no shipping charges, no documentation clutter" thing myself.

...besides, if you do get physical software, what's the first thing you've got to do? Well...connect to the 'net and install the current set of patches, of course. :P

Sorry, but I don't think so. While M~R may become a boxed version when it's
ready, we bought the prerelease with the promise to get the updates till it's
done, quote from the M~R license post:
Software Updates which ensure you have the most current version of
Maxwell including the final product: MAXWELL RENDER 1.0
And though I really like printed manuals, I couldn't care less in the moment.
Solid app and solid plugins are more important for me (and I guess for you
as well)

Cheers

Although I am thankful for the compensation, I can't judge the nature of it.
I mean that I can't take advantage of it now neither in the near future; speaking of multicores ipermachines is more than dreaming for me. I would love to hear something about the linux porting so far, which is the main reason I bought the software.

About the boxed version, I want to say that I hate to read on the computer screen, so a physical unbiased manual would be great.
Other than this a box might only add confusion in the actual mess of my room, and downloadable realtime sfw is way better.

If you do not like the subject why post a complaint? Don't be a type "A", just ignore the thread and live longer.

I read the manuals on the bus/subway, waiting for my kids to get out of school, etc. Manuals should be offered as an option and any fee should be nominal. BTW, trees are a renewable resource, paper is recycled and manuals do not have to damage the environment.

Like you I'm just voicing my opinion............oh and it wasn't a complaint, it was an exclamatory question.

M~R so simple, you're gonna spend like 5 minutes reading the manual.........why do you need such a slim read on paper? I can understand with the Lightwave manual, or Max etc, there's a lot of stuff to learn and re-read........but M~R?????

Point taken Earnest, but I doubt the manual will include any of the 'underlying science' anyway...........I'm just imagining what THAT doc would look like.....

As to building materials, well as with most sfw it's always been up to the end-user to either work out for himself or buy out-scourced texture sets.......I imagine someone will be offering those real soon......

When it comes down to it, M~R is SO elegant and simple to use it'd be a crime if we had to pick up the manual for more than a thumb-through anyway.... :)
