I agree Mihai, not only that but sometime soon, single cores will not be available as double cores become the new minium standard. Then the sweet spot moves to quadcores as the top of the line moves towards oct-quads [8].

You´ld still have to pay for those machines, and not everyone is made out of gold.

Personally, i find running download-ware without a proper printed manual kinda like running warez software. You don´t really have the product, it doesn´t feel "legit" and there´s a great difference in quality and lifespan between a home burned cd and a pressed one.

At least that´s the way i felt about Zbrush2. Perhaps why i never use it, now that i come to think of it...

Rochr, the present-future time-table continuum is moving more and more towards purchase-and-then-download software from developers. You do not need a manual for Zbrush, all the documentation is built into the UI. Its pretty awesome but could always be improved.

Yes, it's much better to chop down all those trees than have an in-program manual.

And everybody knows it isn't a legitmate piece of software if you can download it. Real software requires you to stand in line at Fry's Electronics for 6 hours in a cloud of computer-nerd ass-crack vapors listening to discussions of Lord of the Rings role-playing adventures before you can purchase it. In fact, come to think of it, nothing you can do on a computer is legitimate. Only that which can be etched in rockface with a piece of flint is real. Me Grok. Me like fire.

Last time I stood in the queue at Fry's electronics I happened to have 2 computer-nerd ass-crack vapors discussing the latest star wars movie. It was soo worth the wait… :)

Sorry, but i don´t see that as a good thing. Especially not with that UI.

Glad someone can be sarcastic.
Personally i really like seeing software being cheapened and stripped from all unnecessary stuff. And who knows, if we´re really lucky, we eventually come to a point where we ourselves also have to write the code for the software we want to buy.
Looking forward to it. No really.

Agree on this, really. I mean, In an ideal world, NL could give us a free license plus free upgrade to v2.0 plus a round trip ticket to Madrid to collect the boxed cd with 06-07 seasons tickets to Santiago Bernabeu, 'Palco de Honor,' but they're surely gonna need cash to keep dev going.

For what we payed so far (those of us with 1 license, mind you), we get a total 8 cores at no additional cost (with the free license), and a pretty wild assortment of maxwell apps to choose from (alphas, betas, rcs, and v1.0 and what not).

Plus i don't think they've even mentioned at what point (or for what price or if there will be a price at all) for the eventual upgrade to the RS2 core, and I doubt its around the corner anyway, so for now we're in pretty good shape. And v1.0 probably won't be perfect, but what else out there is?

The present is nice, for sure.

I just keep thinking that allowing the re-sale of licenses should be possible now : I don't need the extra license (even if nice present ;) ), will not use it before at least one year, that's for sure. I assume that within the 2 coming years, V2 is gonna be available, which leads us to the choice, the tricky choice at that moment of V2 release :

1* do I buy another new computer, install the extra license, find a use for it (for a real use, you have to buy something expensive with 4 cores...) and update my 2 licenses which is 2 times more expensive of course ??

2* do I update only the first license I bought, and defenitely forget about the nice present they made, because everybody knows that whenever you miss ONE update, the next one is almost as expensive as the original soft is ???

So yes, it's nice, maybe clever move if some of use are to update it in the future, but would be even more intelligent if one could re-sell the extra license because you can be almost 100% sure that the new owner, with just one license, is going to update it, whereas I won't.

Is this a fair conclusion?

It seems that the majority of folks are satisfied with the free additional license offered by NL, based on the responses here.

It follows then that the same majority is satisfied that some of the promised features will not be available in v1.xx and that they will have to pay for the upgrade to v2, which will include some/all of those missing features. (We will be paying some kind of charge for some features promised for v1.)

My clients, which pay for something long before they actually get the product, are certainly not this understanding or forgiving.
