After some tweaking and texture restoring I think this one comes close to my beta renders again:

nico OH YA!
nice updates. I really really enjoy looking at the new orange and blue background ones.. the colored gorund plane adds sooo much dementtion and gives nice colro tobounc on the instruments.. these are wonderfully wonderful updates!.. the last one(dark blue ground plane) also has nice light quality from the sun and a fresh angle of view..

Nico,

I agree with samsam that RC5 has lost something. I started a thread in the wish list forum about this.

http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... hp?t=12240

With beta I found most images to look pretty real - even if the lighting was way off (or excusing someones texture mapping and scale)- it seemed to look real. With RC5 the WIP still looks more CG to me.

So far I enjoy working in MWStudio, and yes its a big leap forward. I just wanted to see if others are noticing what I am noticing. Maxwell's main point was to easily get a photorealistic render without a lot of messing about. I think until the final V1.0 is out we all are stuck messing about. Although some of it is kind of fun with Maxwell's unique features

Good work !

Hi Adam,

Don't forget that people had many months learn how to use the beta materials, and only around a month so far with RC5's --> not to mention the effectiveness of the disabled features (MXI emitter, SSS, etc.). Imagine Nico's recent work with a little SSS for the plastic!

I think that after we've all had a little more time to learn how to use it correctly, we'll find that the new material system is capable of far greater realism than the beta ever could have been.

Cheers,

~JD

JD,

It is not as simple as that. The more I think of it, I doubt it can be compensated with materials (the engine needs a slight callibration).

Some early tests with lampertian materials (in both Beta and RC5) show that RC5 has more color transfer.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Nico.

JD,

I didn't copy the entire thread I posted the link to. But we all agreed that SSS and more IOR materials would help a lot.

The key is your statement about having time to learn RC5. That's the big point here - Beta required very little of this. I found most errors in Beta were from bad texture mapping, scale, and users having no photographic knowledge. 80% of the time beta WIP looks very real. RC5 I see about 20% looks real.

At least that's been my observation....

thanks thomas, very interesting test... (when a picture speaks more than a thousand words)

so, let's keep rolling with the beta and hope in the next RC :)

ops... i forgot to say that your cockpit is great Nico, and i expect to see some update at least for the next two or three years... :D
