> combined fabric : sample of rough fabric with glossy stichery or pattern on it

Well sure.. i know what you mean and why you want that, it's a timesaver
but i think we as artists should also do some work on our own and not let
other people do our work for us. That's part of the fun, to recreate realistic
surfaces of various sorts using textures and Maxwell's shaders.

The type of materials you ask for are ofcourse typical for archi work,
that's quite obvious even to me (hehe).

But as you can see in the Goodies section of the forum there's a material
library under construction there and i'm sure it'll grow as we all learn more
with time. That's a good repository for newbies as well as pro's to find out
how to create a certain surface. Or you could just ask.. most of us try to
be helpful on the forum if we can.

I think "Art-Discussions" really should be another forum, Maximus. If you want - I would love to discuss this topic with you there .... (ready , when you are ready...)

and : yes ! I know : here are a lot of wonderful people, willing to help- but I think their life-time should not be lost again and again with beginners questions some good samples (or tutorials) could solve.... let's act structured ...

...and save time for art production ... or other fun ...

(Anyway: I hope NL could give these starter -samples, like other render-apps do... maybe they are interested to rise the learning curve....?...)

Looking at the Goddies Section: not much development there yet, and no textured material samples too.... (not even on your homepage, I am disappointed, Maximus!) maybe the best formulas will remain best kept secrets as usual ? ....

I totally agree. For me Maxwell is (and will be) a dream come true .. a render where I finally will be able to concentrate (almost) 100% on creating pictures instead of having to worry too much about technical or renderspecific settings. And for me this includes not having to go too deep into the the techincal aspects of building advanced materials. A set of predefined materials as a starting point for all kinds of material is a must. from such a set every artist can learn and build materials for his/her needs.

Of course it can often be fun experimenting with materials from scratch, just like it is fun experimenting with all other aspects of 3d but having a collection of materials as a starting point is essential - so that every artist do not have to start from scratch. I even think that this could be a very strong selling point for Maxwell to have such a set of materials included in the package or as add-on for customers to buy.

As Maximus mentions we have the Goodies section here, and I really hope that will be grow over time. When I start using the RC versions of Maxwell (probably by RC6) I hope I also will be able to contribute a little there.

Come to think of it .. I think that the same could be relevant for other elements of Maxwell eg. lights (should be a collection of pre-build light objects with correct applied emitter materials), cameras and maybe even standard scenes like a few different studio setups etc.

First, there's no reason why thousands of users need to reinvent the wheel.

Then, at least for me I can create new materials much faster by tweaking
existing ones than by creating them from scratch.

Maxwell Render can not afford not offering a robust set of materials! all the other packages do offer them and for good reason... people want to get work done - not play with material settings all the time, they want to check the application right out of the box... stopping to create new materials when not having any, without knowing the application yet is not a good first impression.

You are right, MAX - it is easy to set this materials. So NEXT LIMIT should do this job and quick. They know best how to set this materials, and it will only make Maxwell much more better and attractive to all.
