2 hours to export a scene with RC5 from VIZ!!! 20 seconds from 1.2.2. Plugins need so much work...

Just tried Indigo out of interest and because he's a fellow NZ'er. So nice just being able to export a .3DS and the renderer just loads the textures correctly and renders.... A lot of the gains we get with scene setup in MAxwell are lost in the exporting and material mapping to MAxwell currently.

I still don't see why as a first step Studio couldn't have been just a material editor.

Ouch

As a programmer myself, sometimes I work on software for the insurance industry, sometimes for finance companies, and sometimes I spend (spent) time writing an exporter from Sketchup to Maxwell. Also spent a good number of hours building (hardware and software) a vertical scanning white light interferometer. Quite a range of concepts involved in these. Not too difficult on the whole - even for me, a non-genius.

All of this leads me to believe that someone capable of working on the studio for Maxwell is quite capable of the small mental shift required to work on plugins. Otherwise maybe they should hire better programmers.

I am posting here because Maxwell has unlimited potential. The core concept is sound. The technical execution was going well (slowly but well) until we started with the RC business.

NL is driving a truck and all of us users are piled in the back. Everyone in the back hopes for a nice smooth ride. NL seems to think a predictable ride is no fun so sometimes they like to jerk the wheel violently from side to side. So the people in back just ask for specifics about when and how the wheel is going to be jerked around but they are ignored. Well, not exactly ignored. Periodically they are assured they will be given detailed information about the path but then all the sudden silence and the wheel jerking continues.

Please! :)

No more wonders!!

Just fix glass/sun/shadows from outside view etc!

I just can´t understand why so many on this forum do not see the importance of this issue.

It reminds me of old LW horrors with cheating all over the place to make shadows look soft/light.

Then Autodesk just cut the throat on Lightscape, and let it die slowly with it´s customers.

Just 1 single question in the end.

Is there hope of provideing just a simple image of a Maxwell RC6-R1+ render with sun/shadows through glass ?

"LW" is Lightwave made by Newtek.

Lightscape is dead by Autodesk.

Just to clear things up, different companies.

ohh man, mike, im ever sooo glad your one of the maya users, fells so lonely when other plugins get mxm import capability and maya plugin is so bare, so im still using beta, but love the material editor of rc5 but cant import animations into rc5, but your post has helped me gain some more patience for a new maya plug..
thanks for that post
