I don't actually know, to be honest. We're working with a version internally called, "RC 6.x" but where that falls in the release plans, I have no idea. We just test what we're given, and occasionally pick up a bit of "big picture" info... I've asked, though ;)

Oh, I don't know, Adam... I've seen you posting around, including a helpful tip in the Masterclass thread. Glad you have energy for that sort of stuff...

All I'd like to add is: please chill guys. We've already got a jewel of a renderer in our hands. It's a good thing to appreciate what you've got in stead of only complaining about what you haven't got.

We've traveled through dark clouds over here at the forum, and to me RC5 is the sun behind the clouds. Better spend your time utilizing the current vast powers of Maxwell and create! :)

"We've already got a jewel of a renderer in our hands"

my thought s too!

i hate all this wining etc. everybody knew he was buying an unfinished product. at you also saved 50% of the price! really please stop hitchiking the threads with this bullshit lawsuit stuff, thats just ridiculous. mverta put this in very good words it think...

i for myself would prefer some more RCs rather than an not 100% finished 1.0 to be honest. RC5 is very nice. just give us feature by feature with additional RCs. i would hate to see a 1.0 too early.

i dont see any hurr for a 1.0 it is finished when its finished is how maxon treats it, i guess thats also a good strategy for NL. and for users that want to test the features now they can buy the beta at hlf price- nothing wrong here...
i already use rc5 for production and it is one of the best renderengines i have had in hands until now.

Mverta- how is it about cooperative rendering- that is the most important part for me at the moment- have you already tested a working versionfpr rc6.x?

please dont hurry NL, just make it good and solid!

"We've already got a jewel of a renderer in our hands"

That may be partially true if you are using a PC and Max, but I'm Mac based and use FormZ. I've spent too much time trying to getting RC5/Studio/MaxwellZ to work in a reliable, useful way that can fit into my workflow. I simply can't afford to spend anymore time on it, so it is going back on the shelf until v1.0 is released. However, there is no communication from NL as to how much work needs to be done before v1.0 is ready. Also, my understanding is that v1.0 does not necessarily mean that the plugins will be vastly improved - just studio and the render engine. The FormZ plugin was the sole reason I invested in Maxwell.

I'm not angry or frustrated, but I have to be realistic. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the email announcing v1.0, but until then I've got far too many other things to spend my time on.

Cheers,

Nik

"Right now we're being set up to not even get the base functions we paid for, and you come here telling us about amazing stuff that we aren't important enough to even see? There is no reason to trust NL about anything. "

well please speak only for you and dont use "we".

your experience is definitly not mine, sorry.

i have done the 3rd paid work with rc5, and my investment in the maxwell licenses have paid back several times already!

RC 5 is not finished product, thats clear, but it is very very well usable to produce outstanding work, if you want to. i have done this just directly coming from cinema with almost no pre knowloedge of maxwell. it was really easy. i guess you dont even tried. for sure it is not that easy as cinema4d- but to be honest-almost no softare is as simple as cinema.

i am trying to talk hear with other users that actually use maxwell, not with the ones that dont use it. i guess verybody knows here right now that you are not happy with your purchase of maxwell. as far as i read your posts ypu are also not happy with final render. this is sad, but it doesnt get better by complaining in almost EVERY thread here

please respect the users that are very happy with maxwell already- they also exist-
for me it is most fun i ever had with rendering(this is what i ever dreamed renderengines should behave since the last 10 years), and i am confident it will even get better with next RC releases.

Stefan, you shouldn't take criticism of NL as a criticism of you or any other regular users. People who are dissatisfied with NL's performance should be allowed to voice it in a civil manner.

I agree with Ernest about the virtual carrot dangling. We're (I think I can speak for everyone here) not donkeys. Next Limit has my money. That is all the support they will get from me. I'm not saying this to be mean. It's just the way things are.

Earnest it is ok sorry, maybe i misunderstood you.

probably i mixed you up with FR, nice to hear you are happy then. i am happy with fr too, but it defenilty has some serious bugs still, i just encountered again. And another user told me that Edwin was very arrogant when we tried to point out a problem. so no company seem to be perfect.

but i must say, since rc5, and since i invested a few hours to get into it i love maxwell even more- and my clients too.

sure i too hope the plugins will be improved and as i said i rather prefered some workflow enhencements than new features in MW. but i truely believe this is an outstanding piece of software, i guess it also is hard to develope. and thats the reason for the delays. nobody has really done that before. NL face a different situation, they dont just do another renderer, they expore new territory here.

but i admit that overoptimistic anoucements, and a strange marketing brought NL into a bad light in some situations. i think they could have handeled the same situation much more elegant.

by the way, have you tested vray, is is available for rhino already, and who knows maybe it will be sometime for c4d;-)

cheers

I´m mostly dissapointed in NL official statement that from "now on" we will have a open communication and will provide information about our progress.. After RC5 its been pretty damn quiet around here. Whatever maxwell will be in the future, they will have to work pretty damn hard to convince me of an eventual future upgrade.

By it feels that the existing customerbase are pretty sick, tired, and annoyed of the way NL have handled "their information". I´ve never been treated with what I feel are straight lies. Examples, like, here watch our new render engine compared to the old beta (the mirror in the corridor pictures), and when they released it they excused themselves by saying they just changed the material settings, so everything looks like crap.. I mean, common people..

Mverta, I can't praise you enough for atleast keeping the spirit up.. Without you there would be a full blown riot by now, so NL should be pretty damn happy to hae you around..

We'll.. I'll do what I always do.. Sit back relax, and wait... Someday I hopefully will be able to do something usefull with maxwell. But for now...

"You are not enjoying what I wrote, and said so"
well i see that you are angry, sad for you as i said...

"And I am thinking that FR2/C4D may be as good as vRay"
well vray is more advanced than FR. but FR is definitly a very nice addition to c4d.

overall i wished it would go here much more about the use of maxwell, instead of overall complainment about NL.

so enough OT for me...
cheers
nice evening

I'm sorry guys, but it still makes no sense to me... I've always said I agree with your frustrations and your anger. I don't consider you guys unreasonable, or your positions untenable.

But that's a fork in the road; you can go one way, and decide to stick it out, or you can go the other way, and decide not to. I've always campaigned for sticking it out, and I think if you do, your actions are clear: you can just watch, or learn, post bug reports and practice/share renders and techniques.

If you're going down the other fork, then sue, or file complaints, whatever you're going to do.

It's the hanging out at the fork, fuming incessantly that I don't understand the purpose of. Just going on and on about how angry you are. I swear for months and months the conversations go back and forth. This is exactly how the whole thing has looked from my chair:
  • I'm saying, "Okay, you're angry and justified, and you don't post renders or tips and you keep threatening to sue so go for it."

"Well I'm really angry! They didn't deliver what's in the white papers!"

"Okay, go sue them, I think you've got a case."

"I've got a lawyer, you know."

    "That's great, you'll need that."

"NL thinks they can treat their customers like this?"

"Sounds frustrating. Why don't you try making the best of it?"

"Maxwell is useless. All I model are external views of sunlit greenhouses."

"That sucks. Glad I'm not in your business."

"Yeah, they're criminals and a joke in the industry and they stole my money and the money of other people and we're going to take action."

"Yeah, you said that. Are you going to do that now?"

"...and they should learn something from Luxology/Chaosgroup/Newtek/Autodesk/Apple/Micrsoft who send daily emails about software improvements, plus gift baskets at Christmas."

"I thought you were going to sue somebody..."

"...and I'll tell you another thing: Vray looks just as good and renders in 3 seconds noise-free."

    "Uh-huh..."

"Did I mention they're engaged in criminal conspiracy? My lawyer agrees."

"Yes you did, are you filing that lawsuit now?"

    "I demand an apology."

"Look, if you're not going to actually do anything but complain, what's the point? You said VRay is so much better, etc. so why do you come to this forum everyday?"

"Because I want what I was promised!"

"Yeah I KNOW that, but you already said you didn't get it and you were taking legal action."

    "..."

"Why don't you just go use VRay, write off the $500 and move on?"

"Because I need Maxwell to work!"

    "Need?"

"I told my boss to purchase 100 licenses of it and he did."

    "You what?"

"Well they said it was coming out in October and they lied!"

"Your boss bought 100 licenses of unfinished software?"

    "I told him to."

    "Why on Earth would y-"

"Don't make this about me! It's NL who lied! They said it would be out, and now I'm close to getting fired."

"100 licenses of unfinished software... at best that's criminally irresponsible. Boy, I can just imagine my purchasing guy coming to me with that one. I might fire him just for making such a stupid suggestion, and I certainly wouldn't sign the check."

"Mike, you're a jerk. You're an NL mouthpiece and you're rude and sarcastic and I've seen your website and you're not even that good so shut up."

"All I said was I agreed with your frustration and I thought you should make the best of it. You're the one who's just stuck in a complaint loop all day, the net value of which, in my opinion, is zero."

"ZERO?! My value is zero!? We're paying customers and NL is a scumbag corporation and they lied, and I'm about to get fired, and <foam shooting out of mouth> I'm going to sue and I want <seizure> my money back or 1.0 right now and, and, and.... F$ck you, Darth Bleh!" <passes out>

    -A Few Months Later-

    RC 5 is released.

PM to mverta: "Hi! Sorry about calling you Darth Bleh in the forum LOL but I can't get emitters to work right. Can you help me? Also I can't import geometry and I can't make a simple metal and I have a client presentation in 3 hours it needs to be rendered for."

"Okay, I've returned the scene file to you with some fixes."

    "Thanks!"

    "Sure."

    "..."

    "What?"

    "...well... RC5 is a good step, but when's RC6?"

    "Oh, no..."

"You know there's a lot of stuff we were promised..."

    "Oh, God, please, not again."

"They can't just release 1.0 without all the features and think we won't notice."

"...Our Father, who art in Heaven..."

"This is easily criminal, you know."

    "...Halowed be Thy name..."

"You know I've got a lawyer."

"..Thy kingd- Yes, I know you've got a lawyer. I think you've said that once or twice before. Look, for the billionth time, Maxwell is worth hanging out for; it does amazing things already - have you looked in the gallery recently? Here's a clue: Jotero, Tora, Nico, Olivier, Maximus - the list goes on and on - and there's a ton more stuff coming."

"No. You don't say that! I have a right to be angry and I want what I paid for and I'm...."

The End. Or IS it? (cue ominous music)
