G'day!

As most other people i also downloaded the excellent Ajax bust scan not long ago, it's such a lovely scanned model i just had to let Maxwell chew on it for some hours :)
I let this one render at home for 24 hours 25 minutes 34 seconds, in that
loooooooong time it reached sampling level 14,93.

The materials aren't anything special at all, just plain old lambertian white
with two emitters, one small and one big of different strengths. And last
but not least i let Skydome provide the soft background yellowish moody
light in the scene. Just one thing bugs me, i got stupid and as you people
can see the background sucks behind the model itself. I should have used
a draped piece of cloth, that'd been the best.. maybe next time.

ISO value i set to 100 and i set the shutter speed to 50 :) it just looked
good that way hehe.
Credits first of all goes to Jotero for the model, thank you so much for
sharing it. :D

Thanks for your nice comments Olivier and iker & ludenhud:D yet the lightsetup was soooo simple for this scene. Basically just two lights
and skydome, then.. voila!

Probably i spent like 10-15 minutes on the whole scenesetup including
lights and all that, just the rendering itself too waaaay to long :/ but
atleast it's pretty clean hehe oh and there's no post noisereduction on it.

Good idea iker! :) a challenge with Jotero's model, that'd be pretty fun and
challenging at the same time.

Cool render .. shows the beautiful lightdistribution that Maxwell is capabable of... and only two emitters and a skydome .. cool.

Off topic, but I think Maximus3D has an unfair advantage during his posts. His avatar just perfectly captures the essence that whatever he says should be shouted from the rooftops. I've noticed this for awhile, but I just feel the need to say something now.

Hehehe you finally figured out my avatar misterasset :D

Thanks Mihai, yeap i agree about the crappy looking boxy looking enviroment but i guess i had what you could call a dryspell in a creative way when i did this thing. So just a few planes would have to do. Next one will be better as i'm gonna have a draped piece of cloth being nicely wrinkled in the background there. Just gotta find out a way to model the cloth realisticly.. heh

Thanks ivox, nik, Tom, DIA, Jotero and Xlars. Yeap you're right Xlars the power of Maxwell shines through as with the simplest of lightsetups makes the complex of models spark with life :) that's what i like so much.

I'm sorry for my very late reply but i been without internet and still am at home, this i'm writing at the local library now until i get my connection activated back home again in a few days from now..

I just had to say that for some reason I keep coming back to have an extra look at this beautiful render (the best render I have seen of this model so far .. yours looks like perfect marble).

Regarding a draped piece of cloth being nicely wrinkled in the background, can you not just use the cloth modifier (if you are not using 3ds max I assume there is a similar dynamic solution in your preferred 3d package?). At least as a good starting point for modelling it by hand :-)
