 Woohoo! I managed to do a test going from Modo to MXstudio with perfect triangle faces. It may be obvious to some but for me I'm loving it. I was going from subpatch to obj export then import into MXstudio. I was getting alot of poly face errors. But now following workflow works perfectly.
My workflow now is:
1. create you object, make sure you assign material and part names export as .obj format.
2. load .obj object, [Modo loads .obj formats natively] set your preferred object subdivision level.
3. Freeze.
4. Triple geometry save.
5. Import into MXstudio.
This gives me freedom from using other packages for exporting.
Here is a test render

Where are you assigning parts and materials? Whenever I export from modo to maxwell in .obj it comes in as a single mesh with a single material; i.e. useless.

Well bugger me! (Old English phrase denoting astonishment)

I thought it had to exist because it was part of LW; but I couldn't find it.

Thanks Luka.

Hello Luka,

Yes I have been trying the modo way too.
Left the LW - it is just way to unpredictable and long winded.

I have found that the part names only come over if the part started life on its own seperate layer.
It is okay then to merge layers, the parts are still kept but if I give one layer several part names, it seems only to keep the first one when I bring it into mxStudio.

Have you noticed this.

Haven't had that problem Nigel. 12 parts from the same layer no problem. Make sure you don't use any spaces in the part names or they won't translate over (jeez, what year is it?).

Hello Vinney,

Yes you where right, spaces in the names that where causing trouble, great tip.
Thanks.

Hello Nigel, I haven't tried what you asked, but Vinney's came to the rescue.

Good_find_Vinney
I hardly ever use spaces in my naming, causes lotsa probs for other software.

A problem I did run into when I was freezing a large object in Modo it kept crashing so I had to copy it into a new file, freeze it then paste it back, weird:?:, It might be due to poly limit in Modo, need to follow that up. Has anybody else experienced that?

Hello Luka,

Not recently, I had stopped using modo for certain jobs because of such issues. I you like email the file to me and I can test it for you if it a big issue. Really looking forward to seeing modo 201 and its stability issues. Also how its rendering will compare with Maxwells.

Hey thanks for the offer Nigel, but I feel Modo 201 should be here soon so I won't worry 'bout it for now. It's not an important thing at the moment. I'm having more fun rendering in MXStudio.

A little niggle that I have is I need some kind of point to null feature, having some problems with the framing of subject matter. You know you get the angle just right then if you go to adjust the focal plane, boing! you loose your sweet spot.
