Very cool ideas. I think you could make it more dramatic if you have more contrasty pics. Don't do it all in PS though, make the lighting more dramatic and then play with the gamma setting while it's rendering. That way you're adjusting the tonemapping on a hdr output, instead of 8 bit in PS.
