The source of the grain comes from a number of small triangular emitters inside the house. If I increase the environment light (sun/moon) it pretty much disappears, but so does the effect. What could I try to keep the lighting effect but eliminate much of the noise. By the way, this is a beginning wip...no materials applied yet. I should maybe mention that all glass is turned off.
This image is at SL14.

A few things to note:
  • in the parts of the house you don't see, around where these interior emitters are located, assign a completely black material. You don't need to be making the engine solve for places you can't see. Better yet would be to completely remove any non-visible geometry which does not contribute to the final image
  • put a more reasonable material on the parts that you do see; this may hurt or help, depending, but no reason to start out with unrealistic expectations, whether they are for the better or for the worse
  • just to mention, those vertical aberrations are classic for sub-SL14 or so when there are lots of emitters
I'll post more if I think of any...

JD, that helped quite a bit...already looking significantly better.

Will we be seeing significant improvements in v2 as far as the grain problem with many emitters? I get the impression that the answer is "yes", but not sure if this issue was specifically addressed in that veeeeeeeeeery long thread re: v2.
