..seems like "network-rendering" is back :-)
(sorry no images)

Dear customer,

We are writing to you to share some new and exciting developments on the road to Maxwell Render v1.0. We have set up some comparisons we have done in our testing laboratory to check the capabilities of the new cooperative rendering feature.

The images you can see below correspond to the same scene rendered in (a) 2 CPUs and (b) in 9 CPUs. Both have reached the same level of realism and clarity.

What’s interesting is the fact that it has taken 10 hours to reach the level of image (a), while on the other hand, it has taken only 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to the same point with image (b).

The process followed by the cooperative rendering feature is to make all the machines on the same network work on the same frame at a low quality level. Then, after the specified render time, the cooperative rendering system unites all the renders from the different machines and these results in a superior quality image.

This means that with the new cooperative rendering, time barriers are broken and are no longer an issue. The more machines you use, the faster and the more accurate the results.

We hope you find it interesting and if you have any query regarding this, please let us know.

Best regards,
Next Limit Technologies

I received that mail.

but, nothing special.

2cpu 2.2Ghz 10hr render = 9cpu 2.0Ghz 2.5hr render

that's all. :?

I'm happy; it means that at least there is a chance that Maxwell can be used very soon for production even in its current form. This is what I've been waiting a year for! :D

Does this mean that you can only set rendering time and not sampling level for cooperative rendering?

nope, you can choose either time or sl as usual.

I have only one machine also, wich makes me raise the question: Comparing 1X10h to:

a) 9*16m40s
b) 9*2h30m

I think it's (b) and we knew that already, so no news at all.

If that's (a), well, hum, don't know what to say.

Any hints from Tom?

Ricardo

[edit] I've read the email again and that's (a) for sure. This means that you can achieve the same results in 20h worth of CPU time or in 22h30m CPU time (using nine systems) and have it ready after 2h30m.

Can't see this as an advantage in a production enviroment. It however can save our a**es in some brick wall deadline situations.

I have received that email yes, nothing special...

Beta had 4 licenses per Maxwell Render unit and RC got 1 per unit, will we return to the 4 licenses of the Beta?

not sure what you mean by unit, but with one license you can render using up to 4 cores (beta or rc is the same).
