definitely, i can easily fake interlaced look with playing the specular image itself, i'll send one for you 8)
and even with more dense map, you can simulate the real RGB grids....

Can you do it on something not flat?

There is a problem there Tom.

You cannot do any animation. Try a fly through with the camera wiggling up-and-down, back-and-forth while the TV plays a movie.....

For the indoor dark scene, set your skydome to 0.3 or so (maybe 0.5)
Use the same image for glossyMap and specularMap.
Set the glossy map to 60 or so.

Note: I see a typo in my earlier post. It says specular map(correct) and then it says reflection map(incorrect).

hyltom, you're right... it's just affective on planar geometry.
but this ain't a problem for a plasma TV because we just need it to be planar.

thomas, no I can... the viewing angle is not that narrow and I have chance to key the angled venetian blinds with a skew modifier depending on camera angle while doing an animation and i can map it with some movie frames, no problem really ;)

i know technically this seems a little bit complicated but it's not.

something I don't get with Thomas thing... if your tv is partly hided by a furniture or inside a room, the trick is dead end...no?

also in LW, I've just discovered that you need to map it threee times.. one image in spec, in gloss, and in reflections, but now the new trick is that rflection slider is working...

anyway, Nice shot Tom... I am still have to figure ifit is possible in LW...

keep posting guys..... ver interesting...

gotta go now, sorry..

Hervé...do tell if you can get it working with Lightwave. I don't think the LW plug-in has all of the settings as some of the others. I don't seem to get any response changing the channel % values once I have a map applied, so I don't think we can pull it off. If so, it at least makes me feel a little better about not arriving at a solution.

Does anyone know the equivalent of glossy map and specular map locations iwth cinema 4d plugin? It is not as staightforward as the 3dsmax plugin for this.

Yes Thomas trick is working in LW... but as I said, map your image 3 times..one in spec, one in gloss, one in refl. and put refl. about 80% (it works just in reflections), put dome light 0,3... and voila... but the drawback is that as soon there is someting in front of the screen, nada... and every object around is reflecting in the screen...

I am trying the Tom' trick... looks better so far... Tom BTW, does the angle of the polys screens is important...? I made it 45°.....

I'll post the results... 8)

Nice trick Tom.. nice...
