Just red it, don't understand why some people can be "happy"

I'll be "happy" when i have all the basic whishes we ask for the start (some of them have disappear, didn't go back etc), like ALL WORKING render layers...

Again... let's wait...

You're probably right that some of our wishes and promised features are not here yet but...
I don't know what other software you use but I would like to share my experience with Revit Architecture (Building Modeler by Autodesk). Everyone would assume that it would be a "you ask, we create" situation but I can tell you that the thruth is that we have a veeery long wishlist published to their forum and the development is even slower than Maxwell's. For example, I work with Revit for 3 years and they still can't change the rendering engine. We have to live with Accurender (!) or buy VIZ to do anything else, while they have already added Mental Ray to AutoCAD.
Also Revit was not originally created by Autodesk, they bought it as a fully working program, a new and great idea for CAD.
On the contrary, Maxwell was created from scratch, there was nothing like it so everything was new to everybody, including NL.
I am not surprised that there are wishes we won't see even after Maxwell 2.0

I am very happy to see that our waiting comes to an end, that we have a very nice MXST, a new MXED, and improved MXCL... Everything has changed so it is a significant update.

All I ask for, is that we get a solid and fully working program and not like the RCs period

There is a commercial reason why revit has to stay with Accurender and it is related to when autodesk bought Revit.

I'm happy because we are getting an update.
And one that I think is made by what I feel are dedicated, skilled and talented programers. I'm not a fanboy, but a user that has benefited by using V1.1.
And its an update they have judged to be worthy of a One Point Five designation. In the world of softs, that's no small thing.
And knowing its going to be judged against other Point Five updates and the rapid feature focused development of another unbiased render engine, I'm hopeful they might have learned the value of understatement. Something NL's marketing dept. has not practiced in the pre-V 1 period.
My hope is that NL remains focused on offering us a render engine that allows us to produce the most realistic renders with the least set up time.
Render time is passive to me. I sleep, I do other productive things.
Setting wonkie numbers is work for me. We all have different needs and work flow.
I love showing a render and watching eyes pop and jaws drop. The fact it took 12 or 24+ hours to render is in the past when I show the print.
For me its all about kick ass output. I'm with mverta in that regard.
Forgive the rant, but give the NL people a break. Atleast until V1.5 is released. Then we can gripe based on what they deliver.
Until then, I'm excited.

Glypticmax : I'm really glad that you are satisfied with MW for your gems&stuff work but there are people who were I'll cautiously say a bit mislead in the past and their work suffers to some extent from lack of some features. Even for a photo-reality aimed renderer it's still 1/2 flexible as I beleive it should be. Also giving them hints of RS2 speed was quite unhappy and the situation should have been resolved by an official annoucement explaining the current situation and future developement. All those unhappy statements and promises in past should have been thorougly explained. Not explaining the things keeps the people in doubts or too optimistic and this creates an advantage over people. Explaining the whole situation thorougly with some specific explanation is needed.

I personally am happy with the MW (even though I really miss today's standard 3 features) but I'm not satisfied with the way NL informs us about the developement and the way how the public relations are conducted totally stinks. I mean you really can't argue on this.

So glypticmax, be happy cause you're happy but people have a right to rant because of what happened in the past and is happening at the moment. The deadline wasn't acheived again and that puts the ones responsible for setting the deadline in the "morons of the month" position again.

Maybe there should be deadlines only on features like : "Hey people, we're going to put a simple noise procedural in the maxwell and it's going to be finished in like 10 day ". Now that's a deadline with alot of extra time one could really meet ;)

Glypticmax,

well there are a LOT of mixed results partly due to the variable amount of features and stablity between both platform and 3d app. I'm a Lightwave user and have often been told I'm crazy for my complaints because X user has zero problems. Turns out he was a Max user. DIFFERENT. So, quite a few people are just a weeee bit touchy about features and promised features and have been around getting updates and inchworm progress for YEARS since buying the alpha. So, sure, if we just started using this software, and were seeing it for the first time I could imagine some of these complaints and attitudes would appear more like "why are these people so angry all the time?"

hehe... well, some of us are really a bit bent also, which helps..

and hey, if Maxwell wasn't so cool most of us wouldn't care enough to be so crazy impatient. It's been a while and it's' sometimes hard to be patient. You don't see me online responding to anyone on the NEWTEK site. I use lightwave but I don't really get excited about what comes out... not like maxwell.

So, I guess in the end, I am just trying to say... we'd be less hateful if we didn't care so much.

cheers all.

PS. this is a humorous commentary and any resemblance to flaming or being mean is purely coincidental and should be ignored. Thank you.

Hey guys,
I understand completely the frustration many people feel regarding the difference between prerelease expectations and the performance/features of the current release of Maxwell. I don't want to appear to minimize the legitimacy of those feelings.
Its just that my experience is different. I have a product that works for me, and is about to get better in ways that will enhance its usefulness.
As for NL not releasing a features list or enhancement list, one could think of it as "Which foot do I want to shoot myself in?" sort of situation. If they release a list and it ends up not being fully operational, they have disappointed users. If they fail to release the list, they have disappointed uers until they release the new version. NL is damned if they do, and damned if they don't. So they have chosen which foot to shoot.
Do I like it? Not really. I would love to see a list of all the new features and enhancement. But given the history of Maxwell, its understandable why they are choosing not to release such a list.
So I wait as patiently as I can for the release of V1.Five.

i think the shooting of the foot came just before i bought maxwell(alpha/beta), ie they published a list of features they had and where about to get in the final and then took away some of them and this is the reason some are not really that happy.
all we can do is wait to see what version 1.5 comes out with and then decide what to do or how to act.

They already made a list two years ago, we just want to know what is ready and complete. You're talking as if after all this time they don't know what they have or have not got ready. Of course they know what will be in 1.5 so pay some f***in respect and let your clients know NL.
We have all waited long enough.
