The images posted by NL are impressive... BUT ( )
.. I think I see less caustics coming from the metal bar.

Can anyone comment or am I seeing "dead caustics"?

tom wrote:Well, sampling levels (SL) are not comparable due to changes in the rendering engine. I mean SL10 of beta is different than SL10 of 1.0, so it won't help anyone.
It is "obvious" that the sampling method is different, but just as a reference.
Perhaps, there are sampling extensions (just as in a chess engine we have ply depth N but we have extentions that reach N+X when the position demands it).

The speed / quality of the last image is truly amazing. I seriously doubt if you could this on any other renderer with this speed.

Hi Tom, could you do the classic winOsi test? The scene is freely available in f.i. 3ds format. Output after 100hours looks like this:

WinOsi is like maxwell an unbiased renderer, but not a commercial one. We have however done lots of test with this scene on vray, max scanline, viz radiosity etc. Could publish these data if you are interested in doing it in maxwell.
