to be honest i dont think anything we say will change the flow of where things are going.
i know im a tad you know what at this point but thats just me
i already think this poll would show that it would be more for plugins to the apps people know rather than more to the stand alone longer workflow app.

fine have both but please master of all doesnt work, focus on one thing then run along to the next, imho

i would also like to say this many of the people that are still so emotional (even though it is just) have stayed up to date with every event and continue to keep with NL and this also says a lot

for example i have moaned (even though its just) about the RC since i downloaded it but giving NL the benifit of the doubt i have spent over 15hrs today trying to do something with it. so its not like im closing the door on this event mearly stating i would much prefer a plugin that will work in c4d not away from it.

and many have done the same

so please excuse the "you're all attacking NL again, lets stop this bitching and support them on a wonderfull renderer rubbish" if we didnt think it had potential we wouldnt still be here bitching :)
with that rant over
lets have the poll and see what many already know

my 2 cents

like i have said all along i would rather not see a single thing from NL regarding maxwell, this includes dates on RCs etc. i would rather sit and wait for something that works like a refined old beta. i dont mind waiting a year.

Re: "I just want my bloody TIRES."

And, if Goodyear had already accepted payment for as many purchases of "tyres with inegrated car"....

And to extend the analogy- we get tires that come without air valves attached to a car with no engine.
Then you have a just complaint :)

today ive felt like i have "turrets syndrome" randomly swearing and cussing at the screen due to the random crashing of maxwell RC
just thought i would share that
for instance i saved a file twice, 2 instances of the file ie heli1 and heli2
worked on heli2 and it crashed so i thought "tis ok i saved it, im fine" only to find heli 2 is gone yet it was there last crash. so the "turrets syndrome" kicked in with a loud " ferking ferk ferk wtferking ferk, goddammmit to ferking ferking ferk ferk"
my wife thinks something is wrong with all this cussing comming from my office so for now i would say good night all and i shall continue my quest to get something rendered in this RC MARK MY WORDS (insert evil take over world grin here )

I'm also with the group that doesn't need yet another 3d app. Especially one not of my choosing.

Most loved Maxwell because of it's simplicity, and now we have a poorly thought out, half 3d app which none of us needs. I have much better facilities, utilities and tools in my current 3d apps. The ONLY thing I need is a good renderer.

Maxwell Studio doesn't do anything any other competent 3d app does other than make and preview Maxwell materials and that could have been part of a better plugin architecture. Maxwell is duplicating (poorly) functionality we already have, wasting our time and theirs.

I think once Maxwell/Studio actually works I'm only going to be using studio as a material editor and render directly to mxcl from a 'PROPER' 3d program, IF I use it at all. It's becoming very apparent that Maxwell will no longer be that nice easy program it once was. It's losing it's appeal for me very rapidly now. I wanted a renderer, not another half-assed 3d app, I already have lots of those.

This whole situation sucks. Had I known then what I know now I would never have bothered.

Very, very interesting to read all your opinions.

Although I am willing to invest time in learning the whole new Maxwell approach that is presented to us, I do think that it's a pity that we were so close to a finished elementary integration of a great renderer and now seem to be further away again from what we expected to get.

I don't like the way NL doesn't seem to actively and democratically listen to the people that together invested thousands of dollars to make the Maxwell project come true. Next Limit's fairly disrespectful radio silence of the past several months obviously resulted in many speculations and discontent, which is simply not a sensible way of dealing with their clients.

If NL had simply asked us which direction to go before entering the whole Maxwell Studio stand-alone direction, then the majority of us would surely have voted for completion of the renderer and plug-ins first, so we all could really get going. After all, investors should at least be given the opportunity to influence what they've invested in.

Having said all this, I still believe that Next Limit has developed some quite revolutionary render technology. The development just needs a more structured approach and above all the communication towards us users should be much improved. That is an obvious responsibility of anyone dealing with paying customers.

My $0.02.

Cheers,

Metin

I am one of the few people here having fun with the standalone I believe.

That being said I totally believe that perfecting the plug-ins so you can build in your native APP and render in maxwell was/is/will be the smartest development move NL could make.

They are pleasing me with the studio standalone and probably modo and other mainly modeler program guys.

My vote goes towards making the Maya, Lightwave, 3dstudiomax, C4D, and others' plug ins to be perfected to get the most out of the native software as possible. This would please the largest group of maxwell purchasers.

We want an external render option like Maxwell without extra steps. We would like the beauty of Maxwells' render engine and the functionality of our native package. We have developed these workflows and would like to keep them.

Now, I think everyone would't mind maybe having to fine tune certain things in Maxwell studio every once in awhile since it has a fast previewer now. But any fine tuning made to the plug ins so that the level of precision matches the native package would save tons of time and forum posting.

:)

my 2 cents.

Again. I am one of the few having fun with Studio today but I still whole heartedly agree with this topic. We want more native package functionality.

Though I am not a long-time or very active member of this forum, I have posted a poll taking the suggestion of one of our colleagues above. Please take a moment to share your feelings on Maxwell:

http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9347

Let's hope there is some response from NL to this discussion, and/or the poll I have posted as suggested above.

best to all from Berlin,

Jason

just to toss in my two lines.

i couldn't care less of this new 3d environment, as may others i see. i don't need it and i'm pretty comfortable with my own environment, to be honest i don't even want to have to move a single camera or object in maxwell studio, let alone doing any texturing/uv mapping.
i need maxwell as a renderer, and i need to work from within my host app via plugin. period.

this being said (ranted), i'm pretty confident that the plugin will start working again and i really hope i'm going to have to open the studio only to set up materials, save them and import them back in my host app.

well, i see what you mean adehus. i think it's pretty clear at this point that we're very far from that almost done rc which nl said it was about to be released yesterday. it looks much more like an open betatesting now, which is fine by the way, i don't pretend to have maxwell 1.0 by the end of december, and i'm more than willing to go through the debugging phase. so yes, maybe the plugins won't be ready anytime soon, but it would have been nice to know though. it would have been much better not to set any release date at all, and go for: "it's ready when it's ready".
