for those of you who used this new material feature: does it slow rendering times overall? TA

I'm sure it does. No pain no gain. I don't think this fancy feature comes for free.

You can take it the other way: for sure it will take less memory and render time than rendering the equivalent modelled geometry.

Anyone knows the best way to get multi-layed displacement maps with water-level cutoffs from the geometry objects? I want to make a grass&flowers MXM for the gallery, using new displacement...
Something like that one...

Hi,

It's on its way - ready when it's ready.
Sorry but I can't give a specific date.

Thanks for your patience.

Actually it is better than that because most of the times you would not model such details.
Displacement will give great pictures but I hope we won't need to update to 256 cores...

Niccy, maybe you can talk your boss into allowing the betatesters to show off more of what displacement can do in it's current state of developement. Just various testrenders, wip's and experiments without the need for them to mention any technical details or rendertimes. It would be some eyecandy for us all to drool over while we wait for it to be finished. I mean it helps to ease the pain of waiting.. :D

Hi everyone,

Maxwell displacement is currently in testing phase and can't be rushed, but the release is not far off. I can't post anything else at the moment, but here is a cool render from Mihai:

I hope you like it.
Cheers!
