Honestly, I thought myself you were actually needing help with a file...as did everybody else. If everybody misunderstood then obviously it's not their fault.

Hey deadalvs, sur there's a need for "collaborative rendering", it already have been discussed (and dreamt!) a lot! The basic idea is like the mxm gallery, but it looks like a big project if we want it to be usable by the majority..

maybe a cross-platform p2p maxwell server (official or not) would be nice for the big file transferts (main problem) and the usually integrated forum and news engines can help too..

Also if the system grows, it would be nice to have a script (derivated from the benchmark scene) to provide invested processing power (benchmark)*time /user..

if you were hoping for a section devoted to this, you sure did ruin the moral by lying to everyone in the first place. my initial feeling was that you did not need help at all, but just wanted to see how it would work with multiple users working together on one scene. i expected something a little more than a couple of plants copied several times, but still i was willing to help you figure out your problem. i dont like lying, and i dont like people who do it. everyone who is upset with you has every right to be. now i feel like a jackass, given my own actions.

Wow, that was quick, and unfortunatly a little painfull. I was all set to jump in and help till I saw the deadline.

It's a shame that something GREAT like this can end up falling apart so quickly.

I do think that we all NEED something like deadalvs is trying to start up. I am currently starting day #3 rendering a "Sample" image of an engine and I am going to need a lot of help when they start sending "real" jobs.

Currently SL 12.21 at 48h 33m benchmark 13.5
I had to send a SL 10 image for print to meet a deadline for a meeting.

The reason for the quotes are that my "sample" really is a real job, I'm getting paid, and they may really use it to replace, or merge with, real photography. But mostly they want to see if the process is "good enough".

Here are some thoughts:
File transfers really are no problem.
I have an FTP site that I can setup as many accounts as I want and allows me to store as much as 300GB and up to 4,000GB transfer per month.
(Actually, I use eastcgi.com and it's only $21.56 per month, No big thing.)

Since the primary "need" would be for commercial projects people should be paid SOMETHING even if only $1 That makes you a paid contract service provider and clears up some legal issues.
Maybe this could be set up using Paypal for all participants.

Non commercial projects would be done free simply because we are friends.

In order to satisfy our clients need for security, signed contracts should be on file somewhere. - I'm still thinking this part through. Bonding, Insurance, that kind of stuff.

In short, putting something together that is a little more formal.

what does "Bittorrent site" means?

Hummm, something like I get my 200 Mgs MXI and send it to you with my bittorrent client, so it only travels the internet once, from me to you, no need to upload it to somewhere and then you need to download from there...
