It's also available at least in Max, Maya, Lightwave and XSI (I can't say for sure in the other plug-ins).

Ahhh! of course the emitter has to emit light, what plugin are you using?

When I download your scene from the above link you provided, I can't see you have the mentioned option (Hidden to Reflections/Refractions) checked for the emitter objects. They are all unchecked and naturally visible in reflections. I checked them for all the emitters in your scene and there's no more reflection on the glass sphere.

Yeah but if you check them all the way it emits light onto the sphere changes... is it supoosed to do that? I.e. the reflections disappear but it doesn't light the logo inside as well.

Will, I don't see the problem you describe.
There's absolutely no change in illumination.

Check this, it's your scene:

WTF why does it not work for me. I've lost 2 jobs this week cos of all this... i'll post them in a bit.

By the way the front of the logo shouldn't be an emitter material - the lettering 'zt' should just be all one lambertian material 'letters2' (i think).

I didn't touch the letters and/or their materials.

Here are the two images - the only difference being me ticking the 'hidden from reflections/refractions' box. The lettering only reflects white at the front in one. Your render looks more yellowy too - not sure how you got that.
