I guess it lets you customize a bit the shadow sharpness from the sun, to get sharper shadows. But I don't understand why, it just makes things look fake.

most likely in the famous worst case scenario: interior with little opening(s)
in such case, getting rid of phisycal sky and sun and replacing them with emitters can help (at least, this is what i've found out)

The other thing you could use it for is to put 20 sun emitters in the sky along the path followed by the sun during the day and use multilight to animate the passage of time.

You could use it for a sci-fi image of a planet with multiple suns.

That's right.

In some interior scene, it will helpful to use hdri illumination or skydome plus emitter for sun.

how did you all match the postion of the emmiter so well to the sun's position.. do you use the max sun helper or whatever.. does it line up?

-the multilight scenerio sounds like a bright idea!

Hi, 3dtrialpractice. :D

In my case, I just using my eye.

As you say, it would be good idea to use helper or sun/sky system of max.

but I don't know it would be really works.

Hey, jomaga.

You can still use the sunlight from the physical sky, with an hdr environment. Just turn on sunlight in the physical sky tab, then switch the hdr env and load your maps.

Question is if using a small strong emitter will be faster than using the sunlight from the physical sky.

Response, yes. I'm working on an interior with small windows, as Sandy says, it is faster. benchmark jumps from 23 to 45 between physical sky sun & emiter sun.
