A first go with the new Maxwell displacement - works good and has enabled me to render displacement which have killed my usual 3D application.

To make this simple render a bit more challenging I used Titanium IOR for the material with a small amount of roughness.

Slow rendering, yes but comparible to most applications when quality settings are high.

Hey, what if you had two flat surface with a small offset, and placed the same displacement on them. Would they offset the same way, creating an "air-filled" cavity underneath?

Nice tests guys - Macray that bottle is awesome! Great use there.

For the bump/displacement thing: I agree with Mihai's point that you really need to think of displacement as a geometry alternate more than a bump alternate. If you can do it with a bump then do so - all render engines operate on that basis. The added realism is pretty nominal at things that are only 1mm high! I find it roughly 3-4 times slower so far - but thats purely anecdotal.
