Thx Herve,
I know it's a bit confusing to manage that venetian blinds.
Yeah, the angle is important. My draft was not precise about it.
The planes are very very close (like 0.5 mm) each other and they have a slight angle like 10 degrees.
In fact it depends on your viewing angle.
I mean, if you place the cam direct and planes have no angle then it'll show the emitter. (total white)
Don't forget to use plastic with no color and just specular mapped ;)
Also give emitter a slight angle to back depending on your view angle.
Otherwise, bottom of your screen will be brighter due to geometry.
And the distance of emitter is important... You can ride it into planes also.
When you make it closer to front, it'll shine more. Keep the wattage low.
Don't make it so close or you'll start to see the white emitter if your blinds' angle is so low.

cool... thanks Tom... I am rendering a old LCD monitor right now...

well I angled my blinds 45°, but when looking straight towards it in modeler, I mak sure there were no gap... they are 700 UM from each other...

45° ...hmm. up to your viewing angle, it may be all right...
but it's always better to keep the angle low... it prevents directional lighting..

OK, I understand I will try with a lower angle.....

My version with cinema 4D - we do not have glossy, specular map channels at this time so I had to do it another way.

You do realize that, by the time Maxwell releases, we will all be experts at creating greebled televisions filled with water in flash-lit rooms. :D

I still think Tom's method is interesting academically but is too convoluted and has limitations.

The alternatives do have merit (some more than others)
Thus far I have three tecnologies :D
  • 1. ClipMap method (might be improved to TRI-nitron)
  • 2. LCD method (most versatile)
  • 3. Luminscence method (has limitations, but can be usable)
