Regarding the election, BBC has a nice spread on the reaction from around the world. Many of us here do understand the importance of being a good citizen of the world community and we believe our President-elect shares this belief, too. It is refreshing.
I have two children and they were on top of the election happenings. My daughter was caught up in last night's excitement and really understood the historic significance. Watching her track the voting, while finishing homework, was fun and memorable. She will be voting in the 2012 general election.
KurtS, there are many rankings that show the U.S. to be imperfect and we are not perfect. Now, we have someone in office that will hopefully work to improve our standing in the rankings. BTW, the country closest to being "perfect"? Denmark. It is near the top of a wide range of rankings. And: Reuters, "And the world's happiest country is..",
